Greasemonkey "Territory Tracker" Script
« on: April 19, 2014, 01:27:36 AM »
For any of you who use Firefox/Greasemonkey plugin, I just developed a "Territory Tracker" script that is a step above using Post-It's, LOL.

I dont play guns but the screnshot looks damn nice!

Wonder if you're going to try your hand at more SFC scripts...? Pengy/eljer quit the games  a while ago and no one has much taken his place since.

Sure. I love programming. Let me know your ideas and I can at very least tell you if it's possible or not. :)

Thanks Ymerodraeth. I just updated the code; it had a couple bugs I just fixed. Browser cookies are a pain-in-the-butt in JavaScript! :/

There is still on lingering bug, but it's minor. My script pushes the resources block down to make room for the territory tracker bar, but when doing certain things like adding a ship to the build queue or starting a level on a building, it will "jump" back up and cover up the territory for the ninth colony. Minor, but I'll fix it when I figure it out.

okay here goes...

1) fix some of Pengy's scripts that aren't working so well these days.
2) Re-establish an old script that I used to have in SDE where alliance members could save espis and share them with each other. The script added a ! on the galaxy page under Actions (where allt he lil pictograsm are on the right) and clicking it for anyone in the alliance would show the latest saved espi from that location. It wasn't perfect as you couldn't save multiple espis for the same location but it was really useful. Under the Options page the script added a field where you had an alliance tag password so everyone in the alliance had access to the same aprt of the script guy's database.
3) write a script -if possible- where the "Probe interception" msgs get erased automatically or something, I HATE THOSE.
4) Modify the message box so you can move msgs from one section to a new folder and SAVE them instead of having them get erased after a short while. So stupid.

I can very probably add many moer but I'll start with those and wait for you to tell me I'm completely daydreaming :)

Great ideas! Thanks. You're not completely daydreaming either.... not completely. :P ;)

#1, I'm not the biggest fan of working on other people's scripts, but if they're available to me I can at least take a look at them.

#2 would require some web space somewhere. I have some through Hostmonster, but not enough to store all that data and handle the load of that many players, but I'll look into it. I was developing something similar to it a LONG time ago, when I was still a member of the KBF in the original universe. It is something I'm definitely interested in though.

I'll start with #3. That shouldn't be too difficult, as long as I'm able to call the delete message function on the SFC server via and Ajax call. (technical mumbo jumbo, sorry, LOL) I already have a good start on this. :)

#4 isn't very likely do-able. The SFC implement message expirations so they can save space in their database. And since this takes place on their server, I would have no control of this whatsoever. I might be able to do this by storing messages in a browser cookie, but I don't know if cookies can store that much data and storing them in cookies would mean they wouldn't be available for you if you switched to another computer for playing SFC. It would likely be better to submit a feature request to the SFC developers to maybe have it so that each player can have X number of saved messages.

That was easier than expected. Let me know if you have any problems with it. Oh, and you owe me some hermes probes now. ;)
