I have no idea about eradeon 2, though I noticed the same thing mentioned here happen when I tried to log into the original uni yesterday - white screen initially, then after a few screen refreshers, an error message stating that the server was overloaded with traffic.
uh ohhhh... the fat kid got a nuke button!

Those kind of types of outages are typically server related. BFG doesn't own the servers nor do they have someone monitoring the game 24/7.
Expect only what happens in the fight. That way you'll never be surprised.

Thats dopey

Any server farm would have a SLA with the customer and also a reporting facility to advise if the service was accessable or not, there (depending on price and service of course) would normally be a failover server mirroring the live so that there was a backup should something happen.

Of course if both servers are on the same site and it was a power interuption both would go down.

Typically if a site or service is interupted there is at least an email informing the customer of the drop in service.

Maybe someone doesn't bother checking their email. I vaguely recall a similar thing happening years ago.

Only dopey in a perfect world Phil. Unfortunately we don't live in a perfect world, as censored mentioned a similar incident happened a few years ago.  As I recall that server didn't completely go down, the problem was intermittent.

Most folks around here also seem to be in general denial regarding customer service. When you down size from the 150k+ players to a few thousand its not going to get better, not to mention it never was that good to start with.

Now that point I would debate. The number of players has indeed dropped massively, but the income per player has risen massively. When there was 300,000 players there was no p mode, and half the commanders didn't exist. People also used the merchant to get crystal from hydro, as hydro was plentiful before npcs broke the game.

I would argue that BFG makes hundreds or thousands of dollars more per year per player than they did 5 or 6 years ago.

lol, that's why the office is now Matt's basement and there's only 2 people called Matt still working - no wonder the mail man is confused!

Just think of where BFG would be if they sold p modes back in 2009-10 when there was hundreds of thousands of players. They would have been making enough cash to run a superbowl ad.
When you lose 99% of your customer base, bleeding the remainder for hundreds of times as much doesn't amount to much. They also have to run what, 10 or 15 unis now? Compared to 2.

Yes they get more money per player. I never spent a dime in Uni 1, didn't have to with diplomacy. That said I wouldn't care to speculate on BFGs bottom line without seeing a P&L.

Server cost is a fraction of cost regardless of the number of Unis. However other costs multiple by the number of Unis, reducing profitability.

BFG has made huge mistakes and it has cost them customers. Customer base equals profits. You can debate the specifics ad nauseaum but there is no denying the point.

If you spent 30 seconds actually readilng you'd see the conversation shifted. And since BFG has denied it happening, they cannot have fixed it.
