FAQ for Newbies
« on: December 28, 2009, 10:29:26 PM »
We seem to get the same questions often from new players, so here are some common answers.

Q: Why can I only send out X fleets at a time?
A: You get fleet slots based on your level of AI Tech.

Q: Why can't I build a Shipyard?
A: Some buildings, technologies, and units have tech requirements. Shipyard requires Capitol Lvl 2. See the Wiki for full requirements for any game item.

Q: Why don't I get any crew points for the Facebook friends I invited?
A: You only get crew points and crew members for players who started Starfleet Commander for the first time following your invite.

Q: How can I cancel Ship or Defense build orders?
A: You can't. Cancellation of queued build orders would provide a far too easy way to resource save.

Q: If I recall a deployment, do I get back any of the hydrogen cost?
A: No, all hydrogen is burned at the beginning of a mission.

Q: Can I play without logging into Facebook.
A: Yes! You can set up a password in the Options page (link in the footer of the game) then log in at http://http://fb.playstarfleet.com.

Q: How do I get more credits?
A: From the Store page. You can either purchase them, or earn them by doing offers. There is no way to earn them by playing the game right now.

Though, interestingly, I had 2 friends follow my invite, but I didn't get the crew points for them. They just managed to join up without being added to my crew. Since I joined through an ad on FB and thus don't know, is there an option in the process whereby they can opt out of being part of your crew?

No, but some browsers will cripple the cookie necessary for their action to be related to your account. And in cases like this there is not much BFG can do.
This same thing may prevent your friends from receiving proper in game credit for surveys. They should check their browser settings.

From the wiki, "The number of fleets you can send out at once is equal to your AI Tech level + 1."

You need to create a separate password in Options and then use the following link fb.playstarfleet.com

I need to know how to get energy.  I just started playing and suddenly it said I needed 44 energy.  Then the next time I logged on it said 22 of 22 energy used and everything else says insufficient energy and 22 energy needed.  There is nothing anywhere on the game that explains how or where you get energy or credits.  Please explain and tell the designers they really need to get some more basic info on the site.  Thanks

There is a link to the wiki in the game right next to the link that brought you here.
A quick search for 'energy' returned this page:
http://http://wiki.playstarfleet.com/index.php/Energy

It explains how energy works and has a list of links to the individual buildings that produce energy.

I can't think of a more clear means of explaining it.

:Edit: The same trick will work if you search the wiki for 'Credits'.

NO, while coming out of diplomacy mode you can't get attacked, only when you are going into diplomacy mode.  You can always send out ships with a harvester on a harvest mission to get them out of the way when your away from you computer.
