A message "Hi I'm online" gets the attack recalled and a thank you from the attacker.

Allowing the attack to run full term is bad etiquette.....  Yes you will probably lose more defences than ships you shoot down.

However a sorry for lifting at the last minutes as your buddies failed to gd in time may get you off.

Getting dsp from an incoming attack off defences does not always work out an even swap anyway.

I'll notify I'm online on attacks I can't ninja from moons, planets, and in system hephs, but I never notify for an out system heph attack.   It isn't the defense DSP, it's the increased chance that someone could blow up the attacker's heph the longer their fleets are away.

Fodder for food
It looks like some of our nearby targets have built a few too many ships. Let's relieve them of the burden of maintaining those ships.
Objectives0/2   Destroy 2 Hephaestus Attack Platforms in battle against active players. :o

Two hephs in one day is at least doable.  But if I can destroy 2 hephs in a single day, I doubt I need the incentive of a few 100k resources and half a lucky draw token to do it.

But how would you replace the lost revenue that is needed to maintain the game?

I'm not sure that a discussion about replacing RL revenue for BFG is on topic for a thread about resource inflation in the game, but if you really want a credit buy with multiple resale potential to replace trade merchant, how about a Battlestar Galactica style emergency jump token.   For some number of credits buy a token that when spent allows you to "jump" a fleet on its way to one of your planets to the planet instantaneously, thus allowing a way to "break" a lock or setup a more powerful ninja.  Couple ways to limit the power: 1) only allow jump tokens to be spent to a planet where an incoming attack is on the fleet screen. 2) only allow one "jump" per hr or day or week or month.  3) Give each ship in a "jump" action a chance of being destroyed based on the distance i.e. 1/2% chance of being destroyed per minute away from landing.

If want to argue the economic destabilization, I think a case could be made that the trade merchant is much more destabilizing than NPCs.   Without the merchant, keeping such huge fleets would mean either much higher mine levels...thus incentivizing PC attacks, or a much larger trading network again incentivizing PC attacks.  A de facto limit to hydrogen by removing the merchant would effectively eliminate the run away multiple NPC per session fleets.

Disallow ship building in P mode.  In return allow P mode to be canceled early.  Unable to activate P mode if ships are queued.
---If you play 6hrs a day and have enough resources, then allowing ship building in P mode for the other 18 hrs is equivalent to an extra 2 levels of foundry on every planet (ie, you can build 4x as many ships w/o worry of attack than you could if you only build ships while online).  If you play 3hrs a day, it is equivalent to 3 levels of foundry on every planet.  Yes, those willing to pay should have an advantage over those of us who don't, but that's a freaking huge advantage more powerful than any store commander except perhaps trade merchant.

Keep NPCs at roughly this level, but change plunder formula to lesser of 50% or % equal to player rank as a percent.
---The idea of NPCs being a way to quickly rebuild or for middle lower players to catch up to higher rank means they need to keep the large loot they currently have, but you need to discourage top players from farming them otherwise they are just resource inflation.  So  players in bottom 50% of ranks max plunder is 50% of available resources, just as now.  But, at top 49% max plunder becomes 49% and at top 1% max plunder on NPCs becomes 1%.  Apply max individually to group attacks up to max 50%.  Example a 23% rank player and a 32% rank player GA an NPC with equal quantities of ships.  Loot is shared equally until 46% available (both players have 23%) but player 1 is now maxed and the remaining plunderable resources all go to player 2, but is still only 4% because the plunder cap is still 50%.  Note this only works as a discouragement if NPCs also continue to leave no debris, otherwise you end up with X2 scenario.

Remove the seconds from any scanning technology oracle/tower/whatever.  Any form of scan should only show HH:MM until attack/return.  For multiple attacks arriving in the same MM, randomize the order displayed so that you don't allow the recursive blind locks that are available in this tourney.   Failing that provide some way to break locks, such as applying the 5min autocomplete to fleet tasks.

Any screen that gives both attack attack and espianage as options such as esp report and tower scans should also have group defend as an option if the target is one that can be group defended.

@Renykeny.  not sure how you qualify that as a failed GD.  Other than Snowyball forgetting to evacuate his cargoes and recyclers at the last minute, I'm not sure what better result you expect for a defense against a lock where the incoming fleet is bigger than any 2 in system fleets.

@BC   I got 9,922,500 of each.   Which means I'm down 800K ore; so it was not profitable for my high fodder fleet, but my DSP doubled so I'm not complaining.  In this universe, I'm not concerned with the C or H in the slightest.   As for not getting the whole DF, are you saying that Empire has the 4500 dionysus sitting around in each of your systems that it would have taken to get the entire field?  Dark is the only person out system that was able to double dip the field and he launched his first 600 dios before the attack from only 1 system away.

@Rufus  Yes it was a 1 sec tower lock.  Dark has been agressive up here.  Snowy purposely has delayed researching VDT to act as bait and has spent the last 2 weeks building athena/hades/proms. He launched a GA on an NPC with a large amount of pallas and athena, and FRSed his Proms and Hades.  Once he had the return time for his GA, I launch my part of the GD at 80% dio speed from over an hour out.  So my ships were no longer visible in system from well before Dark did his scan, or his 3 system probes, or even launched.
