Title: FAQs
Post by: Zarchne on December 11, 2013, 07:33:24 PM
1. How do I build mine droids?

On the Advanced Factory (http://wiki.playstarfleet.com/index.php/Advanced_Factory_Territory) territory.

2. Are the ship research requirements for real?

Mostly.  There were some bugs initially, but now, yes.

3. How do I build a Hephaestus?

On the Alien Space Dock (http://wiki.playstarfleet.com/index.php/Alien_Space_Dock_Territory) territory.

4. Okay, then, how do I find and acquire a territory?

Matt H's Open Parser (not supported by BFG) now has a territory search function (http://guns.openparser.com/viewterritories.php?race=Unowned). If you find one you want still owned by “Hostile force #0” when you look at it in the game, then just attacking with a probe will take it over.  Otherwise you will have to do espionage to see what's there. (Or pick another one.)

5. What are the stats for the new ships?  The wiki is unhelpful.

They were announced here:  http://forum.playstarfleet.com/index.php?topic=20514.0
But note that some of the Rapid Fire info is wrong.

I am (or we are, shout out to Unownreality) working on it.  BTW, BFG has offered game credits to compensate those who help with the wiki.  To get an account on the wiki, file a support request in the game.

6. What is Eradeon (http://wiki.playstarfleet.com/index.php/Eradeon)?

You get it from/for plundering NPCs and spend it in the shipyard to improve your ships.

7. Is there a battlecalc?

Yes, Battle Mentat (http://battlementat.com/#universe=guns) now works well for Hired Guns.  And FatBuddha's kid likes to eat raspberries.

8. Where is Warp Gate?

There are no Warp Gates in this universe.

9. Seriously?  But the game says...

Yes.  No Oracles, either.  There may be some places which imply the existence of moon buildings (Operations Specialist description, Tech screen Full Index) but there are no moons and no moon-specific buildings in Hired Guns.  (Space Dock, which has the same function and cost as Lunar Dock can be built on.... Alien Space Dock.)

10. Where is ARCNet?

It can be researched on the Alien Experiment (http://wiki.playstarfleet.com/index.php/Alien_Experiment_Territory) territory.

11. Where is Foundry?

On the Labor (http://wiki.playstarfleet.com/index.php/Labor_Territory) territory.  Note that Foundry only speeds up building buildings.  To speed up ship building, you need the Construction (http://wiki.playstarfleet.com/index.php/Construction) building, which fortunately has lower research requirements... but a higher first level build cost.  See also question 15.

12. I built some buildings on a territory, then lost the territory, then retook it from another planet, and my buildings were gone.  Why?

Territory buildings are more associated with the planet to which the territory is linked than the territory itself.  Each planet has its own set of territory buildings.

13. Where is the guide for newbies?  What do I do first?

I guess you're looking at it.

Resource Vault comes highly recommended.

If you're new to SFC, Bravicus' Guide to SFC (http://forum.playstarfleet.com/index.php?topic=11731.msg149733#msg149733) is a classic introduction.  However, it doesn't take NPCs into account nor the new ships.

14. Now I have a whole bunch of territories and trouble keeping track which one goes with which planet on the fleet page.  Can we sort the territories with the associated planets?

Don't hold your breath.  You can add your tale of woe to the feature request (http://forum.playstarfleet.com/index.php?topic=20633.new#new), but a Post-it™ note is probably your best bet for the foreseeable future.

15. Building “human” ships on a planet can be sped up by holding a Labor territory with the Construction building. Is there a way, or will there be a way, to speed up the building of alien ships (on Alien Space Dock) beyond what can be done with the Shipyard?

No. (http://forum.playstarfleet.com/index.php?topic=20667.msg249153#msg249153)

This is so funny... I was just sitting here writing out a suggestion that a FAQ for Hired Guns be compiled and added by someone at BFG... and instead, here it is, even as I'm writing out the suggestion - albeit, done by a player, lol - wish i had seen it yesterday.

Good job, this is good for everyone! Thanks for compiling this :-)

As with FAQ lists going at least back to Usenet (before this newfangled "web" thing came out) and with abstraction in general, it was more in self-defense, but you're welcome.

Updated #4 to reflect territory search in OpenParser

Might be a good idea to add a description of each of the new terratories to the list - what they do, and what you can build on them... just a thought.

Zarchne,  you seem to know a lot, any idea of how stealing a shipping a triton would show up in a battle report? I know my odds are low having 1% chance
Title: Re: FAQs
Post by: Zarchne on December 24, 2013, 07:31:05 AM
Nope, not me, not yet, sorry.  I'm sure there are people here who know, though, since I've had at least one attempted attack that included Tritons.  I was not sufficiently dedicated to science to let it steal any of my ships.

Post by: stevie ray vaughn on December 24, 2013, 03:36:30 PM
I've got one triton, but I know its a 1% chance to collect a destroyed ship, so until they actually get unlocked, I dont think we will know

anyone know the speed of this uni.. like x1.5 etc??
Title: Re: FAQs
Post by: Zarchne on January 21, 2014, 03:40:14 PM
IIRC, it's the same as Conquest which is twice Nova which is 1.333 (4/3) faster than SFCO.  (Nova is advertized as "1.5x" but that's just notional, not the actual speed.)  So 8/3 or 2.667.

Planet moves: If you have an attached territory and move a planet do you keep the territory?
Title: Re: FAQs
Post by: Arcade on April 10, 2014, 01:26:30 PM
if you attack a territory from a heph, does it then become attached to the heph?
Title: Re: FAQs
Post by: commander abаб on April 10, 2014, 05:59:06 PM
I bet if you do,  the heph would be immovable until you abandoned the territory.

i want to know at what point do you all quit giving Blue Agave‎ his fleet back when he deletes it ?

i have heard of this happening more than once now.

if i did that i would be told sorry about my luck but i must not put enough money on the game
Title: Re: FAQs

Do you know anybody who hasn't had their fleet returned? I don't. And that includes people who don't spend.

We should be saying well done to BFG for allowing people to keep playing.

i have been playing in one  uni or another for over 5 years and i have never been given back ships when i deleted a planet always been told too bad move your ships or droids first
Title: Re: FAQs
Post by: jc on October 11, 2014, 10:12:47 AM
Deleting a planet is different.

With a territory it's easy for them to see the deploy report and give you your ships back.
Title: Re: FAQs
Post by: adm. ford on October 16, 2014, 01:59:17 AM
terri or planet it should not matter if you delete it the ships should be gone no exceptions
Title: Re: FAQs
Post by: commander abаб on July 19, 2015, 05:11:27 AM
Is a territory once gained movable?  I see the move your planet option available in the galaxy screen while on the territory.
Title: Re: FAQs
Post by: XenaHG on August 22, 2015, 04:48:46 PM
You move terri with planet like you move a moon with planet in other uni's
Title: Re: FAQs
Post by: Caterine on August 27, 2015, 02:14:05 AM
The location of the territory remains the same if you move the attached planet.
You cannot move the territory.

A few additions and modifications that might encourage players to try this universe.

1. How do I build mine droids?

On the Advanced Factory territory.

2. Are the ship research requirements for real?

Mostly.  There were some bugs initially, but now, yes.

With a maximum of nine planets, each with an alien research territory (Alien Experiment) attached, it is possible using ARC to have a total of 18 connected research facilities.

You can actually have 19 connected if you attach an AE territory to your Heph.

3. How do I build a Hephaestus?

On the Alien Space Dock territory.

4. Okay, then, how do I find and acquire a territory?

Matt H's Open Parser (not supported by BFG) now has a territory search function.

6. What is Eradeon?

You get it from/for plundering NPCs and spend it in the shipyard to improve your ships.

Eradeon increases cargo capacity, speed, and AWS.
Examples:
Level 15 Eradeon increases Carmanor cargo capacity from 125,000 to 300,000
Level 15 Eradeon increases Dionysus capacity from 20,000 to 50,000
Note: The speed of ships which is increased by jet/pulse/warp research is then increased more by eradeon levels.

7. Is there a battlecalc?

Yes, Battle Mentat now works well for Hired Guns.  And FatBuddha's kid likes to eat raspberries.

8. Where is Warp Gate?

There are no Warp Gates in this universe.

Yes, actually there are Warp Gates, but they are called Territories, and by using them this way, you can transfer ships and resources to any of your planets in the universe.

Example:
G1 (ship from planet) ships and resources to transfer/warp to G2 (ship to planet).
Locate the nearest territory (any kind and preferably in system) to the G1 planet.
Attach that territory to your G2 planet
Send ships and resources to the territory
As soon as the ships land on the territory, send them and the resources back to the G1 planet
Wait about 10-15 seconds, then recall the fleet and immediately abandon the territory
The ships will return to the G2 planet since the territory is no longer attached
Be sure to allow yourself enough return time to abandon the territory before the fleet returns. If it returns before you abandon, the ships will be lost.
There are no cool down times and the process can be repeated immediately.

It can be researched on the Alien Experiment territory.

11. Where is Foundry?

On the Labor territory.  Note that Foundry only speeds up building buildings.  To speed up ship building, you need the Construction building, which fortunately has lower research requirements... but a higher first level build cost.

If you're new to SFC, Bravicus' Guide to SFC is a classic introduction.  However, it doesn't take NPCs into account nor the new ships.

14. Now I have a whole bunch of territories and trouble keeping track which one goes with which planet on the fleet page.  Can we sort the territories with the associated planets?

Don't hold your breath.  You can add your tale of woe to the feature request, but a Post-it™ note is probably your best bet for the foreseeable future.

Best thing to do here is keep detail notes.
Some players add letters to their planet names to indicate which terries have been attached.

15. Building “human” ships on a planet can be sped up by holding a Labor territory with the Construction building. Is there a way, or will there be a way, to speed up the building of alien ships (on Alien Space Dock) beyond what can be done with the Shipyard?

No.

But you can capture alien ships with the Triton Recycler ships.
Build lots of them in the planet shipyard and send with your fleet when attacking NPCs or other players.
You will "capture" approximately 1 destroyed opponent ship per every 100 Tritons in your attacking fleet.

The capture limitation is 10% of the ships on the defending fleet.
If there are 10,000 ships on the NPC/opponent planet, you can only capture 1,000 of them. To do that you must send 100 times that in Tritons, plus enough to cover Triton ship losses in combat.

Rule of thumb:
If there are 10,000 ships on the target, send a minimum of 100,000 Tritons.
If your battle calculations show you will lose 500 of your Tritons in the attack, be sure to send 100,500 to maximize capture of opponent ships.

Tritons in a surviving defense fleet will capture ships from the losses of the attacking fleet.

16. Can I really attach territories to my Hephaestus?

Absolutely.

17. Can I really attack planets from a moving Hephaestus?

Absolutely. But I'm not telling you how. ;)

18. What is the best way to survive Hired Guns

Join Jedi :)
