Please note that most of the players in my alliance in HG were only waiting for the tournament.

Not that I am completely surprised as my post on the alliance ranking left unanswered after three months so obviously the tournament was not on BFG agenda.

I am disappointed and a bit sad that I spent money on credits in the tournaments thinking there would be a season 6. Now I feel tricked. And I don't want to spend money on games that never end, I'd rather pay a fee every month for a better game.

I think this is not correct and hopefully BFG realizes this is just not possible to stop the tournament uni without telling in advance so that the players can planify the use of the credits they have purchased.

Instead of discontinuing the tournament I would suggest to consider organizing the seasons to have a general ranking : give points for achievements (best ranks etc...) and make a ranking over the last 5 seasons (or any number of seasons), as an incentive to play and maintain good results in all seasons. Short seasons are ok but get a general ranking.

Tournament Universe / Alliance ranking

Can we have the alliance ranking ?

I like that in this game you can have different strategies. That makes the game more interesting and you want to be flexible and adapt to the game set up and the player population. Thus it's a good thing that every season is a bit different.

I'm sorry to see some players don't realize that and keep mocking players who have a different way to play the game.

This game isn't just a war game, it's much more interesting than just a war game.

A probe loving fool.

The real recruiting didn't begin until the last day, after ANH had added at least five new players, three of which were in the top 30. Ken, Zeus3, and Doom all joined ANH before Dark One (Yum Yum), X-Ray, and Pantin joined Wormhole.

We probably haven't played the same game. Zeus3 and Doom have joined ANH after Wormhole took the first place through recruiting (this is allowed !) to help us get the first place back. We noticed pantin was in Wormhole 72 minutes before the end and after a few minutes Ken joined ANH (this was a surprise for us as well, and a good laugh).

Anyway I wasn't arguing who joined which alliance at which hour of the day... only that it would be more interesting for the alliance ranking if we found some regulations with regard to recruiting and how to count the alliance points. I would be for counting only members that joined more than a few days before and are not marked (i) (I) or (s). Or do some kind of average of the alliance points in the whole tournament (every day points), which is probably even more interesting but may need more coding.

"And so what is the conclusion?"

That ANH gets #1 in uni's through huge member counts. And has done so for years.

I don't see your point, you must have something against ANH, really.
All unis since nova have a limit of 50 members for each and every alliance. All unis, all alliances. You can use this limit or stay below. The time where ANH had over 2200 members (the original universe) ... old story.

Think again. Wormhole had 15 or so members and was 200M points behind ANH who had 28 members shortly before you had a recruiting drive at the end, which Wormhole decided to match so you wouldn't get a cheap #1. No other alliance had close to ANH's player count. Even at the very end ANH had at least 10 more people than Wormhole.

And so what is the conclusion ? That ANH keeps its members even if they don't have time to play actively ? We don't remove members without a good reason if you wonder.
Had we kept only 15 members just to compare with Wormhole : our 15th on the leaderboard is ranked #51 and Wormhole 15th is #55. It's quite similar with Wormhole having more top 10 players at the end. The reason ANH is a great alliance is because we keep a friendly atmosphere whatever the strength of our members.

And as I said earlier, I had not recruited in the last month until two days before the end when it was clear Wormhole was recruiting to take the first place (a bit too late I think, my mistake given the ranking system). Our last message in the welcome thread was 27 days old when I accepted new members. More precisely four new members (including Commander C).

Then it's only the game. Well done to Wormhole and congrats to the winners.

Another thing, we got Commander C back to help us the last day, but he was in ANH before retiring so that's a completely different case. Another thing I am proud is we had no suspended player.

Well it was a nice season. We all know who were the best players, many of them were in Wormhole who was the best alliance in average points anyway. Some don't consider the alliances, but I like the alliance game. It would be nice if we could improve the game on that matter and make the alliance ranking means something.

oh... and I don't think we were the biggest alliance (with 27 members two days before the end), just the top one for most of the game.

It's exactly what I meant... it is weird to recruit in the last days or hours.

Actually I had not recruited in the last month until two days before the end when I realized Wormhole was recruiting to get the first place at the ranking. I think we lost when pantin eventually joined Wormhole.

And just for the story, Ken already played ANH in season 2 (even if only one or two weeks) and in original I think (but that's really a different story).

I agree the maximum number of player was too big with regard to the number of players, but we should try to have more players, not to make alliances smaller.
Then an alliance ranking does make sense if there is some stability in the composition of alliances. If people leave their alliance to hunt their former mates then go back in the last hour to add their points to the alliance they were hunting it just makes the alliance ranking absurd in my opinion.

yes it was a bit weird to recruit players in the top 100 in the last two days, I didn't expect that given ANH was far ahead most of the game. It was kind of fun but weird. Maybe something to be done for future games, count in alliance points only players being members for more than a few days - and with no suspension. That would make the alliance part of the game less artificial.

Season Three Archive / Re: will there be another tourney?

The idea of this universe was a series of small games with a real end, I expect it to go on or it should have been announced in advance. What with players having active commanders ?

That said, each season could be the start of a new universe with no end, that would allow players who like short games and players who don't to play together. I think it would help having more players in each universe.

Season 3 was a good set up, the only problem was the small number of players. And it was probably two weeks too short, but that's better than one month too long (like season 2).

The new format is what I have been dreaming about for years.
OK, territories didn't exist years ago, but still I'm sure they were in my dreams lol

anyway... short games are the future of SFC
