I wonder why a few players, are so dead set against, a system that would allow people to enjoy the game at their own level...

When SFC started it attracted a very large player base, this ranged from The log in every so often, and build a mine, or do some research, to people who play 24/7 Fleet Crashers, then the was also the foolish account killer types, which seem's to be the ones who are screaming against this proposal..

There was scope for various styles gamplay, Miners, Traders, Fleeters,  There are worries about the dwindeling numbers of players, but what I am hearing from a minority of players is Learn to play, at there standard, and they are quite un polite about it too.. Poor sportsmanship springs to mind,  I wonder if I were to take their fleets from them, and farm them intensivley, would they quit the game..?

BFG needs to put in place a system that allows players to play at their own level of experience, and compete with players of their level of experience..  This would allow for player retention, as the current system doesn't..

SGS 6, has probably come up with the best solution to date, which would actually mean that BFG would have to do very little to implement, the base structure for it is already in place..

Without this being put in place, then SFC is going to end up like an OG uni, with the only difference being, is that it is to bloody big.

Baah....

Funny how the sheep all flock together...

I don't flock with sheep, that was a totally unsubstantiated accusation...and besides, it only happened that once.

You are ODB..?

By definition you are a sheep...Baah...

You can't hunt, you only go for newbies..or noobs..All ODB can't play..

Tracers, like the one ship you "trace" your attack with. You send one ship, then send your fleet to join it.  What else is it called?

It is masking...or locking on..

You use this to get the target time for oracle locks, it enables you to line up your attack, before commiting your full fleet, should you find your lock is wrong on the first attempt, you can recall, and make other attempts, this saves you a fortune on your hydro bill.

You can also use this to mask the return times, of your attacks, thus out foxing any attempt on a counter strike..

Any change shouldn't be based on rank, but on RS points, as in the current system. Easiest way to explain, and to implement, instead of starting a new protection system from scratch, would be to simply remove the 5000 RS point cap from "newbie mode".

If we let EVERYONE be affected by the "newbie mode" proportion rules... you'd still be able to hit anyone you can hit now, unless they have less than 20% or more than 500% of your RS points. So for example, if you're ranked around #4,500 (170k points at the moment), you could hit anyone between 34k and 850k - which currently is ranks #88 all the way down to #25,392 ... which is about half of the players that you could hit under the current system.

Plus, since there would be no hard threshold, we wouldn't have the people who are right at the threshold being suddenly pounded by everyone. And there would just be one set of rules to learn rather than two.

+1

You mentioned this before in another thread, I didn't take it on board before, This is probably the best solution all round.  The only group that this may have serious effect on is the current top 20, as they would be limited to a very narrow band, but for the survival of the game as a whole, this is required, as with any food chain, it is dependant on those below supporting the ones above, if you lose the bottom most end of the food chain, the whole chain collapses.  The top 20 would have to either hunt each other, or slow down, and let the game catch them up.  Granted some of these people may not be happy at that prospect and ultimatly quit, but it would be better to lose 20 players than 2000, or there could be a special option setup for that group, where they get relocated in one galaxy, or the implementation of Badrash's concept of a self reflowing Uni..  This only covers one aspect though, this would need to be addressed before BFG does spend dollars on advertising, or their cost/1000 is going to be crap, this will allow for better retention of newbies, and from newbies grow players.

Laggy, I think you made an error.

This is the original, the other one that is still locked is garbage.

Unless I am jumping ahead of myself.

You know what? In fact, Jamie and Dampaq are saying I can't hunt, when it's clear that I can.

So, why don't you two come hunt me?

I'm sure the 2,008th ranked player and the 187th ranked player would have ZERO problems taking on the 438th ranked player.

Even though it would go against everything Dampaq has preached and turn it into a flaming contradiction, as well as turn him into a liar.

Are you in the top 500..?

Take a look where you probed, I'll be coming soon, just be sure not to toggle D

You're responding, just add him to your "enemies" list and you won't see his posts, I do it to people who annoy me lol.  Thanks B, that is so much better than reading drivel..

Anyway, I'm going to do a scan of G1 and see how things compare out later this week.

The high diplomacy rates may just be due to summer, I know at least 10 players in G64 that, like me, will be coming out at the end of the summer.

I know in my area of G1, there has been a lot of people leaving the game in the past few months, I also know that some of the accounts are being maintained for farming, and that practice has been going on for some time.

They aren't any TopGun near you because TopGun is setup for G75+, as clearly defined throughout the forums. I don't know why you'd make that suggestion as if it were a point or something.

Is that because they can't hit anything worthwhile..?

Are you really this dense? Come on dude.

You know exactly why TopGun is G75+, it's where all of the new guys are.

Edit: By the way, thank you for the crystal with your one probe.

exactly my point about you, easy victims...

Just to point something out in case people missed it, there's a thread in the starfleet discussion section where Codename_B did a scan of Galaxy 64 and broke it down a little.

There are a total of 7,485 slots that can be filled up in that galaxy.
-2,652 of those are in (d), (v), (i), (s), (id), or (n)
-927 of these are players who can attack/can be attacked
-1,193 of these are either active or in (n)
- 2,108 of these are in (d)

That's 2,108 out of 3,579 total planet slots taken up, in (d)

~59% of those planets are in (d)
~26% of those planets are currently active and out of (n)

And the truth is we have a UF6 player who is doing very well in that galaxy..the way I see it there are nearly 1000 potential targets..

A poor player will just fixate on how many are in D mode..

What Hiram-Jim said is exactly correct.

It is a simple macro-economic proof that the fact that such a high percentage of players remain in perma(d) means it doesn't cost enough. Simply put, if it cost too much they wouldn't be there. But obviously the cost is bearable for their purposes. Their purpose is to play Space Farmville. The tax is irrelevant if all you want to do is log in once a week and see how much Tech you can unlock. Takes 5 minutes of casual click-play. Who cares if your mines produced a net of 200k or 50k under those circumstance. No thinking about tough stuff.

Simply put. If we can't recruit more players or convince more players out of (d), there won't be any growth, and the player base will die off considerably faster as the active players run out of targets.

No it means you have failed to read it properly....

Try again.. he is saying monkey with it, and these people will quit...

D-mode, is never going to be dropped from original..BFG stated so ages ago..They are not going to tinker with it either..
To address the complaints of d mode, they gave us Extreme..if you couldn't be arsed to play extreme, then its your own damn fault, not the d moders, not bfg's, YOURS!.  Now stop wishing for shit that ain't gonna happen, and start hunting..
IF YOU ARE CAPABLE.
