General Starfleet Discussion / Re: What, a new SFC universe?
« on: March 21, 2012, 09:42:37 AM »
Matt, I sincerely hope that for any retention of your player base, BFG will re-consider the mine formulas for Nova.  Not that the mine production as a whole is small (we can deal with that) but what we can't deal with is the fact that EVERY player will have NO MORE than 33/33/33 for mines.

Let my spreadsheets below explain themselves.

The first row of percentages (partially highlighted pink) represents a direct comparison between the X1 mine output and Nova mine output.  As you can see, the mines will produce less than X1 mines do, until your mines reach lvl 12 or better.  In addition, you will notice that the mine outputs reduce again, DRAMATICALLY, beyond level 30.

The second row of percentages (the row on the far right) represent the % increase of resources that a mine upgrade will produce when directly compared to the previous level of that mine.  Again, as you can see, the diminishing return beyond level 30 gets ridiculous.  It does not take a mathmetician to see that beyond level 40, it would be cheaper to teardown your mine than to upgrade it, because the result would be the same, a loss of resources.

Consequently, Yaman brings up a very good point, that the soft cap for hydro mines needs to be removed.  Otherwise, we will have no choice but to keep the same fleet size as everyone else (save putting Thanatos/Zeus on our heph and never using them) or turtling, or spending insane amounts of saved up resources on techs.

This, by definition, kills the concept of "a hunter's universe" which is what I thought BFG wanted Nova to be.

Edit:  I'll attach the screenshots of excel when I get home, because I'm having technical difficulties from my laptop.
Damned good point.  +1, Gazz...

I understand your concern. However, the new Universe will have a number of game mechanic changes, in addition to new ships, buildings, and defense, that we cannot introduce into existing Universes without upsetting a majority of the users in those Universes.

Agreed. No rocket science to that. ;)

Original Universe / Re: Starfleet Commander Nova
« on: March 21, 2012, 09:36:13 AM »
I think Nova is interesting enough, and proof that BFG listens to it's customers...That said, "I" personally won't be going there as I'm invested in the Original Uni. It's a good fit for my lifestyle. But that's just me. For those that prefer mechanics such as is in Nova? Dive right in and enjoy! It's a fresh start and alot of new/good ideas goin' on there!

What say Ye, Matt @ BFG?

I find it unlikely that it had anything to do with you. I've met one woman who was part of the .1% it was because of her hormones nothing else. Never trust the pill.... Most women do not take it correct and that's why it doesn't work. You're supposed to take it the same time every day if you don't he effectiveness is reduced. Diet and drug use can also have an effect on how effective the pill is as well.. There are so many things that can make the pill pointless..

I don't have any kids that I know about.....
Daddy?  :-\

Sorry, that was inappropriate. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA<koff,koff>HA!

Ummm...err.... That was inappropriate as well, lol! Sorry!

General Starfleet Discussion / Re: BFG, want a good game?! here is how
« on: March 10, 2012, 12:10:23 PM »
sounds like a pretty terrible idea.
People play the extremes for one reason. Its fast pace.
People dont play the extremes because they dont want a fast pace game.
you cant merge the uni 2's of extreme and original together because of the mine production difference.

Like HELL am I going to compete with many others who have much bigger fleets, higher mines or any of that stuff. Further more I play original because of the skill it takes to play. If I wanted high mines or the inability to go to the bathroom without having to worry about my fleets then I would play uni2 or one of the extremes.
Also so those that only play one or two of the different universes vs those that play all would have a bigger advantage over those that dont.

also this idea has been discussed before and as then it still a pretty bad idea.

I'll give it the same -1 I gave it every other time it was suggested, for all the reasons above, and in fact BFG have already given it a permanent -1 so there's no point in discussing it.

On the other hand it'd make a perfect time to quit, so I guess it does have an upside.

Yep. What they said ... ::) I agree.

Bug Reports / Re: is it racist?
« on: March 04, 2012, 09:36:06 AM »
Whether or not it's racist depends on whether you're looking at it from a Democratic point of view, or Republican.

If it's an object of color and you want to create a diversion in order that you may complete your own, liberal agenda, then it's racist (modern, liberally Democratic point of view).

If it's just an object of color among many other colors, then it's not racist (Republican viewpoint).

Personally, I think cheating is going to be part of any game. It's human nature. I think BFG does all it's obligated to do in regards to cheaters. The rest is up to us, as players, to take into account cheating as part of the game, gather the intell and give it to BFG for further investigation.

Dealing with cheaters is just part of the game that's just as much our responsibility as it is BFG's.

Morat is a "she"

You're kidding me!

Hi there!
My girlfriend wants to also start playing SFC. I'm worried because this means we'll both be in the same home-network= same external IP. And of course we're going to help each other.
Is this against any policy? What could we do to let her play?

My question is: How are you going to keep her off of you now? Evidently you have no idea what kind of effects this game has on women... Man. I'm sorry Dude.   :o    8)
