General Starfleet Discussion / Stepping down
« on: October 16, 2010, 03:58:25 AM »
I'll be stepping down as an active moderator as of today.
I no longer have the expendable time to moderate the boards or play SFC.
I've passed my Uni1 account onto a long time player and will occasionally check in here on the boards.

It's been fun, sorry it had to come to an end so soon.

General Starfleet Discussion / Official Statement About SFC Stats
« on: October 02, 2010, 08:55:30 PM »
It would appear Codename_B has zero integrity and has now begun using unwitting players as a DDOS botnet. He has modified his all scripts on SFC stats to contain malicious code that attacks BFG's support.
DO NOT continue using any recently installed/updated scripts from SFCstats as it puts you at risk of being banned.

General Starfleet Discussion / Official Statement About Codename_B
« on: October 02, 2010, 03:24:59 AM »
I talked to Matt and was O.K'd to release some info on what happened.

About a month ago Codename_B was banned for "kidding" that he had created bots for running missions and fleetsaving.
After he was banned, he covertly opened a website dedicated to being "a hub for future SFC scripts and cheats."
Codename_B was initially keeping this website private for players of PROFIT in universe 2, due to legal reasons, this website was quickly found and tracked. The website contained 2 auto-mission scripts and a script that could send an email to alert the user in the even of an attack. This fleetsave bot could play an audio clip to wake up a player if an attack was inbound while they were asleep. Not only did he create bots to circumvent game play, he also mocked all the employees of BFG on the site.

Some of Codename_B's actions on this second website were legally actionable.

For those who were using these bots during the period which BFG was observing the website before requesting it shut down, stop using them immediately and report yourselves to BFG via support. Your accounts may be partially reset (loss of some ships ect) as a result of the unfair advantage gained after contacting support. Failure to report yourself or outright denial puts you at risk if BFG already tagged you as using ANY of these automation scripts. In this case you will have your account fully reset with no appeal.

For the record, PROFIT in uni2 had access to this second website and it was regularly being accessed. There was only one beta testing script on the website that was not a bot but only one member the conscience to contact me in private (several days after it had already been discovered independently by BFG). I'm disappointed in all of those members that didn't step up and do what is right, or worse, encourage the development of them.

This thread is to be kept clean and on topic. Any superfluous or trolling posts will be deleted and may result in a board warning.

Universe 2 / Battle Report Rules
« on: April 18, 2010, 05:07:58 PM »
When creating a battle report thread please follow the following formatting.

Please include this at the very top of the post above any discussion that may be included:

Attacker1[Alliance], Attacker2[Alliance] vs. Defender1[Alliance], Defender2[Alliance]... ect.

When posting a Battle Report, you must include:
  • The ingame names of all attackers and defenders.
  • Combat techs must either be given for both attackers and defenders or none at all [Only possible with converted battle reports].
  • The complete individual fleets of all attackers and defenders both before and after the battle [Final State] must be shown.
  • The resources captured and the debris field generated even if all are zero.
    • For both battles with more than 1 wave, the follow up waves can be shortened to just the resources captured and the debris field created.

When posting an IBM assault, you must include:
  • The ingame names of all attackers and defenders.
  • An espionage report before any IBMs had been fired and one after all IBMs have struck.
  • If you are the defender, you may post the IBM reports.
  • The total number of IBMs fired, who fired them, and their total cost.
  • The total damage done to the defender.

Some guidelines for battle report threads:
  • NO coordinates are to be posted under any circumstance.
  • Comments in threads are to remain constructive and on topic.
  • Comments in threads should not contain unrelated battle reports.

Threads that are posted after May 1st that do not follow these guidelines will be closed.

Discuss here.

Off-Topic / Microsoft Word Equation Editor
« on: September 14, 2010, 02:05:29 AM »
Does anyone know the keyboard command for root functions of arbitrary powers?

root(x) works but the listed command root(n&x) does not. I'm working on a large series of equations and derivations that contain a significant number of fractional roots ect.
I am aware that I could do insert->root->ect and copy it but it is much more time consuming and inconvenient.

General Starfleet Discussion / Reminder For All Users
« on: July 12, 2010, 02:34:06 AM »
A friendly reminder that these forums are accessed by a wide range of players. This includes minors.
As such I ask that sexually oriented and sexually explicit text and images not be posted on the boards.
The message board is intended for all ages and users should keep this in mind when posting.

If you do, feel free to upload them here:

Any particularly offensive or obscene ones may be taken down though.

The first is an example of a recent alliance application that showed up in my queue...

General Starfleet Discussion / SFC Tool
« on: May 15, 2010, 07:43:55 AM »
I'm re-working SFC Manager to become an all encompassing tool for account management. I've begun overhauling the interface for the old sections. Some new sections are under construction. No timetable for when I'll have it done yet.

Here's a preview of the much improved expandable interface:

General Starfleet Discussion / New Planet Art
« on: April 23, 2010, 05:15:49 PM »
I decided to make some more planet art!
All my planet art can be seen here.

I'd post a few here but the the thumbnail generation and preview functions of vanilla phpbb3 aren't that great and they are fairly large images.

General Starfleet Discussion / Re: 420 Strategies : Hand Lanx visit #1
« on: April 22, 2010, 03:09:22 PM »
This doesn't work half as well as it did in OG. The primary reason is you can harvest to a debris field around a slot without a planet.

I don't think you can launch at a Heph when it is in a returning state.
Might want to check up on whether you can actually launch at the slot labeled "unavailable"
