General Starfleet Discussion / 102,000

Why does the Universe 2 Login page say:
Starfleet Commander - Uni 2 - A free game Universe with over 102k players

Yet, looking at the leader board, there are barely over 5,000 players. This seems like blatant lying to me.

Feature Suggestions / New Player Placement
« on: June 27, 2011, 06:11:51 PM »
This has happened to me three times. I dispatch my Heph across several galaxies on a three day journey. When it arrives, the planet I was aiming for was filled by a new player.  So now my Heph is on a return trip for another 3 days. Lots of wasted time and hydro. Now, if a player actively colonized that slot, them's the breaks. But the game put a new player there. The formula for where the game places new players should take Heph deploys into account. Any planet slot that has a Heph enroute, should be excluded from where newbies can be placed.

Universe 2 / Time Out Error
« on: March 27, 2011, 02:43:09 PM »
Anyone experiencing these a lot lately? They have been happening to me quite frequently. I try and switch planets and it hangs there for a few minutes and then gives a time out error from the server. I know it's not a problem on my end because why it's not loading I can visit any other webpage just fine. It happens randomly but sometimes frequently. It hasn't cost me anything yet but I can't risk any closely timed defenses as it stands because of the risk with this time out error.

Feature Suggestions / Wormholes
« on: June 20, 2010, 02:16:26 AM »
Here's an idea for a new game feature: Wormholes.

Wormholes would form randomly in the universe, there would be two types, Stable, and Unstable.

Unstable Wormhole: Unstable wormholes would appear randomly in the galaxy. These would shift location randomly and last for an unknown time. At the end of that time, the unstable wormhole would disappear.

Players can also attempt to build a Station at the mouth of an unstable wormhole and attempt to stabilize it before it disappears.

Any player can enter an unstable wormhole and attack the station, if one exists, on the other side.

If a player sends a fleet through a Stable wormhole to exit out of an unstable wormhole, if the unstable wormhole collapses while the fleet is on the other side, it is lost.

Stable Wormhole:  Once a station is built a wormhole becomes "stable". The owning player can then send his ships through the wormhole to carry out any legitimate mission (transport, attack, espionage, colonize, deploy, group defend, group attack) and the travel time and fuel consumption would be calculated as if the ship departed from the mouth of the wormhole.

Once a wormhole has been stabilized on one side, the other side will remain an unstable wormhole until a corresponding station is built at its mouth. Once a wormhole has two stable ends, if both ends are not controlled by the same person, they can only attack and espionage the station on the other side.

Stations: Space stations are built at the mouth of wormholes in order to stabilize them.  Stations require Wormhole Tech 2 in order to be built using a Construction Ship. If a station is begun construction and a wormhole collapses, the Construction ship is lost. A player can only control two Stations total. These could be at opposite ends of two connecting Stable wormholes, or at one end of a Stable/Unstable pair.

A station is like a Hephaestus ship in that they can be attacked and destroyed. If a Station at a stable wormhole is destroyed, the wormhole will become unstable again.

Construction Ships: Construction ships are used to build stations. There are no limits to how many you may build, but a player may only have two stations. Construction missions are the only mission that can not be conducted through a wormhole. To build a station on the opposite side of a stable wormhole, you must travel there through real space until Wormhole Tech 8.

Wormhole Tech: Wormhole tech is the science of studying and understanding wormholes.
Wormhole Tech 1- Allows a player to enter an unstable wormhole and attack a station on the opposite side.
Wormhole Tech 2: Allows a player to build a station to stabilize a wormhole.
Wormhole Tech 3: Tells a player roughly how long an unstable wormhole will remain, to within 2hrs.
Wormhole Tech 4: Tells a player roughly how long an unstable wormhole will remain, to within 1hr.
Wormhole Tech 5: Tells a player roughly how long an unstable wormhole will remain, to within 30min
Wormhole Tech 6: Tells a player exactly how long an unstable wormhole will remain.
Wormhole Tech 7: Tells a player what the next system a stable wormhole with an unstable end will appear in.
Wormhole Tech 8: Allows a player to conduct Construction missions through a wormhole.
