i was ranked 4 when i decided i wanted to stop playing. I gave it to my alliance mate :p

Maybe you should see if any of your alliance mates want it. If you want to sell it, better to sell it to them first. I didn't sell mine because I didn't want it to be used against my friends. (like the Lrr account)

You could ask Rob Ross the same question?  We're just following his lead here.  Volume THREE of the most asinine displays of gloating on the sfc message boards ever.

The difference is, people love me.  I'm funny.  I'm awesome.  Even the mods like me.  Hell, BFG send me Christmas Cards in June.  I do two shows a night and it's standing room only.

Yeah Rob, we love ya!

As the RS man - we note that Deface lost 176.7 M resources  in RS - Since you can't take down research, and taking down mines is improbable - sounds like there is one less major fleet in the world.     did anyone see the debris field? (it should be about 50 to 55 M debris)

trust me. What's left is still a major fleet. It's not a crippling loss. but painful nonetheless.

:| should have given it to someone you knew. I gave my account to an alliance mate.

General Starfleet Discussion / Re: Losing players to the future??
« on: July 17, 2010, 01:36:15 AM »
funny thing is, i never really planned on being number one. The only time I reached that was when I was number 1 in resource spent. But I loved seeing my alliance number one in the rankings. I'd sacrifice my ships and  my rank, so alliance mates would get the kill and the debris. Almost all my group attacks were net losses for me. I even gave a few free moonshots to alliance mates.

So I guess I played for my alliance.

I still eventually left the game. But yeah, it will be the people you play with that will determine how long you last. So if you want to keep playing, join an alliance, make friends, and have fun. Going solo flight on this one will end your starfleet career really fast ;)

Hmm...i live in the same place as I got hit by the same storm. I had no electricity for more than a day. Fortunately, I was able to use my iphone to continue playing. But as to the topic of giving back would be a fifty fifty for me...if it was somebody I just randomly hit, then I wouldn't mind if they got their ships i can hit them again lol. But if it was alliance enemy...then I'd rather they didn't. So I guess to be fair, no ships should be returned. There's a reason it's called "act of God"....because we can't really account for it. But when it hits, we can't really do anything about it but hope for the best.

as for using the reason that giving the ships back will let them continue playing, i think unless BFG fixes the way the game is, people will leave regardless. I've just recently given my account away. I still have one of the biggest fleets in the game (I wasn't really a believer of fluffing the fleet numbers, so my fodder was around 18k arts only, the rest were capital the math). but if you think about the logic of the game, you'll realise that you will eventually all leave.

1. we build big fleets....for what? to destroy other fleets
2. we tell everyone, fleet save or lose your fleets
3. so everyone fleet what?
4. the ones you can hit will soon be hit (and more likely quit), the rest fleet saves
5. the new ones that don't fleet save, will probably be too small for you to hit
6. you run out of targets and just keep wasting hydro looking for one
7. i've been in the top 5 for almost as long as I've been playing, what's the point? it's getting harder and harder to find targets because the universe is too big, people now know how to fleet save, and it costs too much to send your fleet to the further galaxies. at least before, the time i spent on the game resulted in lots of lovely debris clouds. I used to get a few good hits a day. Now I barely get one good hit a week.
8. you either sell your account, retire, or pass it to someone you trust

at least that's what happened to me. And it's happening to the top players of the game. The higher you are, the faster this happens. Why do you think it was so easy for Akkarin to quit? Or ZPM and Some Call Me Tim to let their ranks drop by taking an extended break? They already reached the top ranks...what else is there to prove?

Don't be surprised to find other top 10 players quitting soon. It's just bound to happen. The other players are still trying to see how high up they can go. When they reach that, they'll probably throw in the towel as well.

You can't really beat/destroy anyone who knows how to fleet save properly. Even if you land 5 hephs beside my planet, you wouldn't be able to destroy my fleet if i was online and knew how to fleet save. You'd probably even lose your fleet on the return flight too if you weren't careful. The fact that you can't really destroy your enemy unless he got careless is pretty demoralizing lol.

Maybe BFG should have made it in such a way that you couldn't' fleet save. but you would only lose a very small portion of your fleet when you lost the battle. At least that way, people win, people lose, but they won't quit since they still have majority of their ships. They retreat into hiding and can't be attacked again for a day or two..or longer. But that's just my idea...
