Feature Suggestions / Help Create your Dream Tournament Universe
« on: July 01, 2012, 07:16:59 PM »
So I know that after almost getting excited about playing a new Tournament Universe that after reading the proposed layout for the tournament, that given the way that the tokens and beginning strategy of the game work, that I won't be playing this one.

However, I thought that perhaps, in this thread, players could list the things that they would want to see in a Tournament Universe that they would actually play.

Here are my thoughts:
1) the current proposed speeds and building mine ratios are good - +1
2) No moons for the tournament uni
3) have everyone start with a full fleet at the beginning of the game.  Have all buildings start at level 10 generation and the techs should start from 0 as usual.
4) have no ships/massive res bonus' available in the tokens for sale.  However, as BFG does need to generate cash, still have the droids, admirals, planet moves, etc for sale as those functions don't affect the leaderboards the same say.
5) have the point system for building/res spent calculate differently on a point for build ratio rather than a res spent ratio.  This would make the focus of this Tournament Universe be about hunting/surviving/ship building versus mine building.
6) Have no NPC's in the game at all
7) have no missions for res, but instead have the missions generate badges only or unlock accomplishments that do have rewards.
8) have a 3 strikes your 'out' rule in the universe meaning that if you lose 50% or more of your fleet more than 3 times than you game becomes null and void (this could mean that maybe the Tourny length gets diminished to maybe 2-3 months tops)
9) charge an entrance fee of $25.00 but for that fee give every new player 50-100k in credits to start the game with.
10) winner of the Tournament and top player in each category would go in a new thread called 'the Winning Hall of Fame' on the boards.

So that is my dream hunter's tourney idea.

For those that are builders, perhaps you would like to see a Tournament that showcases building instead or for other hunters, you might have some better ideas on how a Tournament universe could be created as a level playing field that measures skill.

Either way, I thought that I would post this thread as a start to generate ideas of what players would like to see in Tournament Universes in one thread given the current reaction to the one proposed by BFG.

Nova Universe / Re: Moon Shots/DSP - current rules of the Universe

och, you people are missing the point and yes, Andy is a prolific writer on the boards but that is just because of his tenacity in 'making time' to argue points that he is passionate about.

Sue is completely right in stating that really, unless you have walked in another players shoes aka life, you have no idea what kind of time, energy or strategy commitments that they have made to the game to get them up the leaderboards.  For some its time, others its building strategy and others, its spending money to get where they are.

I have to say though that I do like the idea of a time/points stat on the tabs, as that could be an interesting category to gauge players and their actual rank proficiency :)

An interesting thread tbh, but it seems like really, with Nova, as stated by Matt and others along the way, the focus of the universe is building and not dsp, which was a test for the uni, to see if skewing it that way, could increase and help the longevity of the universe.

I think that part of the challenge is that the two playing styles, building versus hunting in the various universes come out the same in the end regarding players longevity and retention because as I have said before, there are some fundamental inherent game mechanics/aspects that inhibit growth over the long term no matter what style you play.  Until some of those fundamental bases are addressed, no matter what the uni is, or how it is slanted, the issues will continue over the long term until everyone is burnt out or just so pissed off that they finally  - as seems to be happening in another mass exodus, walk away.

Sadly, as someone who has experienced and known the joy of how truly exciting, fun and addictive that this game can and once was, it is disheartening that all of the players amazing ideas, support and recommendations keep falling on deaf ears.

I have spoken to both of them at the same time (in skype)  and can CONFIRM 100% that they are separate players although they are BF/GF so yes, there are times they are playing from the same IP address.

very simply...its just all about the BOOM!

we like to make it go BOOM! and we like to do that often, in any way we can, with any ship we can, on any attack we can because of that little feeling of joy that happens when those ships collide.  The DSP...well, that just marks you as a BOOM! addict and the points just tell the story of how much destruction you have left in your wake ;)

So sorry to hear this news.  He was a great player and condolences to his friends and family.  May he rest in peace and now travel through the stars in the great spaceship of afterlife.  Blessings on the new journey and lets hope someone leaves some ships out for him to destroy on the way. :D

My understanding of the system which, does make things like this hard to catch, is that BFG can't go back past a certain point regarding a players account history.  So they don't have any reference to frame against.  I can say that Kip was super diligent in 'gathering' his evidence against another player suspected of cheating recently and was successful in getting the player caught, but he had hard evidence to back up his theory, and the player in question was also dumb.  It is too bad that you don't have the probe report of the millions sitting on the moon.  To really catch something like this you have to catch the res on the moon in a probe and then file a ticket asking bfg if x player hit x moon to catch the pushing.

it sucks, but they don't have the ability to see everything we do, which, is sucky when trying to create a timeline or players history.

Most of the top players won't attack for that little dsp, but there are many players who will attack if even one ship is left on a planet if there is res to make it profitable for them.

While i personally don't agree with attacking for overnight production unless the res is at least over 1-2 mill or the ships generate at least a 1 mill df,  there are those that imagine that hitting little hits like yours actually will help them rise to the top in dsp. (note, that is for xtreme, in x2 I won't hit for less than 50k dsp or a df of less than 5 mill)  but then, as said, there are those that think that any ship left out is fair play.

I am sooo envious of those build times, absolutely AWESOME :)  SDE build times in comparison are like comparing Flo Jo to the world's slowest sloth.  Gratz!

Nard,

I did send in a ticket regarding this issue.  I know that I will probably not get the response I am seeking, nor will any action be taken in regards to this issue, but then, all we can do is keep trying and perhaps, these players will screw up so badly, that they finally get themselves perma banned for good.

Keep hitting him, and I would screen shot the before probe reports vs. the afters, and then probe ALL of his other planets at the same time and ss those too.  Perhaps if there is visual evidence of the before, mines, techs, and then 4 months later, it might make a stronger case against the magical resource fairy who like to drop off billions of res to be converted into hundreds of Zues.

pssssst...Resource Fairy......over here...Resource Fairy.....my planet location is   [xx:xx:x] but I hope that you can find me too please!!!!!  ;)

ROFLMAO!!!  Sheeshie Jimmy, that was awesome and thank you again for more math.

Either way, it still stands, none of us can get the math to add up, so I guess I will send in a ticket with the link to this forum post and perhaps BFG can help us all out in figuring out how it is POSSIBLE to get those ships, in that time, with that res production in less than 4 months in X given a DSP ranking that even if the hits were 500% profit, (highly unlikely) and 16 hours a day farming (also unlikely according to planet monitoring sources as posted in this post), to be legally gotten gains to produce over 300 zues.

Even Tets, a formerly known multi-accounter in X2 in 4 months with DOUBLE the mine production and building speeds could only accumulate 152 zues.....and we all know that Tets is one of the BEST farmers out there.

PN,

It is just matter of will to catch them, Jason can login in any account, and therefore check if there is a inexplicable long ship building queue. Or they could run a script to find accounts with queues longer than 1 week

I can honestly tell you that the player in question was reported at the time, the account was 'looked' at and support didn't ever notice the 15years of building in the queue and said that all account activity was normal for this player in question so while its a matter or will or time, I know that players in both uni's who got away with the shipyard bug still exist although few had build queue's like the player I mentioned.

oh..and Jimmy, you calc'd the math possibilities for everyone to see, as always, you are AWESOME :)

OM = 1
Biskirk = KO

Thread that is super boring and needs a boost - this one.

Ways to make it more interesting with sarcasm and wit = already accomplished by Matt H.

Ways to get get it viewed more than 1000 times, have any of the 'colourful' people who have been banned from this forum be allowed to post here ;)

Reason I am posting in the first place: wondering how many suckers will think I actually wrote something worth reading -          :D  ;)

Nard,

I can confirm this to be 100% true, the shipyard bug would build the amount of ships input in the queue and generate the resources from the amount put in.  I do know of someone who still has 15 years worth of building on their planet which, hilariously, is only an F1 :)

According to the build queue, their ships will complete building in about 15 years just to give you an idea about how many ships did and were queued by many players at that time, which, was almost over a year ago.  And as was posted in these boards, and as many others know, there are players that did get away with it and that were never caught.
