That formula would be for SFCO.  Uni 3 travel times are the same as Nova (and now Eradeon)... the calculation is all the same, except at the end you multiply by 0.75.

As with the above post, take care as to what you attack with thans....higher or equal weapons tech to your own shield tech can yield a destruction of your fleet

But Battle Mentat should know that.  This is almost interesting enough for me to try to figure it out.  Maybe later.

(I wouldn't say Thanatos are "very weak" in any circumstances... it's just that they are much weaker against Lasers (and Curetes) in that circumstance than otherwise.  The deal with Space Mines is only that they don't have RF against them.)

Just to be clear, they are not first overall.  At this writing they are fourth (although not far behind #3).  (Did someone else make this comment and then delete it?  I missed it.)

This seems to be yet another thread (like this one that started in X2 but Matt moved to general) wondering why the NPCs a player sees have become unprofitable.  The best information we have says the NPCs vary in composition partly based on the composition of the players occupying certain percentile positions on a day-by-day basis.  (Of course, they could stay stable for many days or weeks if players have similar compositions or the rankings don't change.)

I missed the Golden Age, when there were (tens of?) thousands on players in the game, and don't know if there was a time when you weren't able to spend money on the game,

As I recall, there was a time when a medium-grade alliance was looking for players to get into the top 70,000 (seventy thousand) before accepting them.  And there were a lot fewer things that could be bought then.  I think the most scandalous thing was that someone could buy Spymaster so that they would lose fewer probes.

How about a real new player trying out the game.

A new player would start out with other new players, and the NPCs in that area would (probably) be more appropriate for that group of players.

Is universe 2 the same only newer?

I don't think you can say that Uni 2 is substantially newer at this point.  Certainly, it started with fewer players and probably those who did play dropped out sooner.

I know this is a bit of a stretch, but can we infer from this that you acknowledge the “piñata” effect Pantin describes (which is an important part of the context for Theo’s gripe)?

I was thinking specifically of SFC Eradeon here.  There will be no way to increase your fleet, buildings, research, etc., as there will be no debris fields from the NPCs you attack, no way to gain resources except by attacking the next three players who surely are going to be smart enough not to leave you much to gain when you attack.

Yes, I understand all that, and fail to see the problem.  (Also, you're leaving out mines.)  It's okay if the #1 player is bored and frustrated.

And insecure.

Yeah... all of this discussion is piling onto a parenthetical remark I made to give one reason why BFG (and players) might consider it okay for NPCs to leave debris fields that are only distance 5 from the planet in the same slot, and it really has nothing to do with the question I was answering.

I don't think there's any question that if you don't like NPCs, your best choice is Eradeon.  It still has NPCs, but they don't provide any RSP-resources.  Nova's probably the second choice: it's a fairly standard universe (apart from the “new” ships) and the NPCs don't provide DSP.

Moons cannot be abandoned any longer in destructible moon universes.

Oh, well, crud.  I assume that would be true in all universes, then?  (Somebody in X2 have an extra moon they want to try it on... or I guess I could try sacrificing one of my SFCO moons for science...)

Wait, how is abandoning a moon better than having it destroyed?  The moon is gone, and you lost the potential free DSP of the attacking fleet?

Was looking at the Moon writeup today.  Made some updates for changes that have happened since Nova; added a new section, Abandoning.  Clarified that a debris field can be harvested at the moon.

Also made some changes to the  Eradeon (correct build exclusion rule. initial cost. section headings) and Territories (Add categories. List Guns types. Light cleanup of Conquest types.)

A few days ago, another editor, Yrx, made changes to the Evaluation section of Mobile Assault Colony.
