General Starfleet Discussion / Where have the larger NPCs gone?

I'm over in G7, playing Original.  There used to be several of the medium and larger NPCs (Urcath Large Fleets and larger) within, say, 60 solar systems of my location, at any one time.  There currently is one Krug Floating Colony and one Colossus within 60 systems of where I'm at.  I look for these things several times a day, thus I know that people haven't been going on an NPC eating frenzy.

It appears that the demise of the NPCs has happened within the past 2 or 3 days.

So -- where have the larger NPCs gone?  I know that BFG was making some changes a few days ago, to INCREASE the spawning rate for the largest NPCs.  In doing this, did they also DECREASE the spawning rate for the mid-size NPCs?

The larger defense-heavy NPCs, such as Large Leviathans, Large Floating Colonies, and such, often have plunderable resources heavily weighted toward ore.  I even saw one recently that had less that 1K of plunderable crystal. 

There is no ROI in going after such a target, because you'll end up losing (via lost ships) substantially more crystal than you can recover.  So, those targets simply hang around, not being attacked, until it's time for them to dissolve into nothingness.

My suggestion is to rebalance the plunderable resources so that the H:C:O ratio is more in line with what a "live" target generally would offer.  I'd suggest that C be "at least" O/3, in some cases in the same range as O.  With this rebalancing, more of us mid-sized players would have a reason for going after the target.  But, I can't afford to attack a Large Leviathan if I'm projected to lose 350k C and I'll get only 50K in return.  It doesn't really matter how much ore I can get, the loss of C keeps me from even considering that target.

For those of you who haven't yet experienced the joys of an Oracle Lock by a superior player -- well, you are lucky!  In an Oracle Lock, the attacker sees your mission using his Oracle and times his (vastly superior) fleet to arrive at your departure base a few seconds after your return.  POOF!  You lose your fleet and all the resources you just acquired.

Here some advice from one of the senior members of my Alliance -- Phoenix Risen, tag = HOD.  It's a small, but very helpful, Alliance.  Join us if you want a good home.

First thing you need to do is open a new window with your fleet screen. This is called your FLEET SAVER SCREEN. You need to do this before you launch your attack, so it show all your ships.

Shrink this screen to a different size than all your other screens. This insures you do not use it or close it.

Now this only works if you get the numbers 100% correct.

When getting o-lock open both your regular fleet screen and your FLEET SAVER SCREEN. Put them side by side for easy reference.

From your regular fleet screen FRS all remaining ships on your planet. (leave some hydro for the returning ships)

Change the numbers on your FLEET SAVER SCREEN to mimic what is coming home.

If you wish to try and save some res ALWAYS make the numbers smaller then what you are bringing home. If you miss by just 1 number your fleet will not dispatch.


As soon as your fleet returns from the attack, dispatch your fleet from your FLEET SAVER SCREEN. (I like to wait about 1/2 sec. to ensure they landed)

If you entered all the numbers correctly and your internet did not glitch your ships should be safe and sound.

I have done this several times. It does work!!

Looking to trade 800K hydro (mine) for 1200K crystal (yours).  Will also trade fractionally.  For example, if you have only 300K crystal to trade, I'll trade 200K hydro for it.
