I feel that if you are allowing d mode, you might as well just have a regular tournament and not allow p mode as a rule.  If you want to make it something special, then you have to do it outside of the normal type tournament set-up.  Probably one of the hardest issues in putting something like this together is the fact that more than half the players don't even read the forum and don't know you are trying to do it, so you don't get the sign-ups you would want.

As to a leader, I could run an alliance, but I won't say I am the best for it, just willing.

I think you might want to create two alliances and see if Bruce and Todd would act as captains and then take turns picking players from willing participants, Bruce first based on rank.  The problem with folks using their own alliance is that, no alliance can get 100 percent of their folks to stay active for that long, or ever for that matter.  Two temporary alliance makes more sense and then we aren't tying this to particular alliances, but more of an "all-star" game.    You would end up with more even teams as well as having more folks free to play.  I know I would want to, as would some others in Time/time, but we will always have folks in d.   Even if you could get an existing alliance to participate, they would end up overwhelmed by the power in one temp alliance.

Time would love to have some of those veteran warriors, but we abide by one very strict rule:  No trash talking allowed.  There are Times we want to, but we learn self control.  I am never sure how trash talking helps anyone move forward in life, it only gives the false appearance of superiority.

I  think I saw it written somewhere that a foreign participant in a battle will not create war points.  Maybe BFG programed that into the game.   It makes sense, because it  wouldn't be able to split points to someone not in the war.

Depending on where I am in my building cycle, like really near upgrades and intense building, I end up hitting my own because I am too far behind the others around me.

The only issue with setting up like that is that, since you will have a much more limited number of systems for targets to generate in and each system can have a maximum of 3 NPCs, unless you are the only person in the area, you will find small targets taking up most of the spaces and will not generate as many targets yourself.

Losing defenses doesn't count against you, but losing ships does.  Throwing that many ships at a turtle is akin to suicide in a tournament.

Based on a suggestion from a member of Time, I recommend that, instead of set rank bands, we allow attacks within 100 ranks up and down from each player.  People on the bottom of the current bands are sitting ducks because they have little in the way of hittable targets and those at the tops of the bands are sitting pretty if they don't hit within the next band.  Just a thought for the future.
