General Starfleet Discussion / Re: Looking for the perfect colony.

It seems that 9 is also a great's actually got a higher mean than 6 and is farther out, which should help for hydrogen synthesizers. All the 4, 5, and 6 slots are full near my home system, so I'm colonizing the 9 planets.

I had an incredibly productive day today. :D

I went into diplomacy mode after I left newbie protection on Thursday until I got my dionysus and could resourcesave easier. I came out of diplomacy mode yesterday. Half my galaxy has gone inactive in the last 24 hours and I've been attacking inactives. They're all fairly new, so I'm only getting 20k or so in assorted resources out of each one, but at my level, that's helping me build even faster.

I should have my first Poseidon by the time I go to work tomorrow. Just need to get enough crystal for my level 4 pulse drive.

And I've raided three inactives down to the point where its no longer efficient to go after them. And will have my first colony in 90 minutes or so...the ship's on its way.

Life is good.....

General Starfleet Discussion / Colonization strategy....
« on: November 29, 2009, 04:20:53 PM »
So in a couple of hours, I'll be the proud owner of a shiny, brand-spanking-new colony ship.

I'm curious as to the colonization strategies people employ. I'm aware of field counts and why one should colonize 4, 5, 6, etc. I also read about temperature differences and the advantages and disadvantages for energy, etc. What I'm curious about is the strategies people employ for where they put their colonies in relation to their homeworld, esp. their first one. Is it best to cluster them nearby for mutual defense and ease of moving resources and ships between them? Should I go farther away to 'hide' my colony so if someone comes gunning for me, they don't find all of my worlds quickly? If so, how far away generally works best? I know there's no right answer, but I'm curious to see what works best for other players.

Thanks for the help!

I understand the importance of fleet saving. However, when I go to my Fleet page and put in a coordinate of an uncolonized planet, it comes back with "Planet can not be found". Do I need a certain level of tech? How is this done????????

You can't go to an uncolonized planet (unless you're sending a colony ship.) You have to send your fleet to an existing world. However, if you send your fleet to another world on a transport mission, it can't be attacked.

However, any resources you load in your fleet will automatically be dumped at the world you send them to, so you can't really resource save this way, just fleet save. To resource save, you need the Dionysus. I just got mine yesterday after dedicating all my resources to getting it since I exited newbie protection. That waqy, you can send your fleet and resources on a 'harvest' mission and they bring your resources back to you. Added bonus: You're completely invisible on a harvest mission...even the world you fleetsave to can't see you.

Greatest ally thread ever. Wild applause.

Although if I see 1000 rainbow-colored ships bearing down on my homeworld, I'm putting on iron underwear before I fleetsave.

General Starfleet Discussion / Re: Trading in D-mode

d mode can be a great help when used properly.

I have no intention of staying there...I want to blow stuff up. But I just came out of newbie protection and I'm still building up  my tech to get a dionysus so I can resource save. It'd be silly for me to be attackable when someone can take my resources and I have no recourse. As soon as I can resource save, d mode comes off and I start decimating my neighbors. :D

So the d mode bias is kinda pointless, in my opinion. I don't see the fun in d mode, and I don't get why people sit there for weeks/months. Whoop-de-doo, I can build resources, yay. What's the fun in that? But as a tool for protection while one builds up to the point where they can effectively engage in combat or to rebuild, I don't see the problem with that.

General Starfleet Discussion / Fleet/Resource saving question
« on: November 25, 2009, 04:25:52 PM »
If you load up your resources and send them to a completely unoccupied planet to resource save (I'm still working on getting a colony or a dionysus), will it still drop your resources? I want to resource save, but I don't want to lose my resources to another planet and I have nowhere to send them to yet.

Thanks for the help!
