Ok, GD ninja, got it.

I'm sure I'll just lose a fleet if that happens to me, I'm no where near having a moon/oracle. That will be good to remember when I get past noob stage.

Once again, thanks for the responses. The more I learn from this game, the more I like it. Perfect for my addictive personality.

Plus, I can play this without my wife getting pissed

There is a slow probe counter you can try to save your fleets also if someone is trying to do that to you. When you launch your attack, send an invite to group attack to yourself. Then, when you get close to hitting you join the attack from the message you got about being invited to group attack. But you only join with a probe. You set the speed of the probe so that it will take roughly 20 seconds longer than your attack(provided that it doesn't slow the attack by more than 30%), then launch. This will slow your attack down by about 20 seconds giving you enough time to probe the planet again in the last 20 seconds of the attack to see if anyone sent a group defend and you will then be able to recall your attack saving your fleet.

Believe me, unless she's playing SFC too it's only a matter of time.  :?

Wait until you're an hour late for her mothers birthday party because you have to wait for an attack to come back before you fleetsave :)

Hahaha, what makes you think I want to go to her mother's birthday party?

that scenario will surely play out soon because there is no way she would "waste time" playing this game when she has reality TV to watch.

Everyone started out as a noob, and most of us have made the same mistakes. Just read the boards for advise, listen to your more experienced alliance mates and FRS and you'll be fine.
