3 day in player how close can other galaxies be
« on: November 04, 2009, 07:46:31 PM »
So far I've found soem inactice homeworlds around 2 hours away, can they be closer?

Ok so it seems some are intertested.
I'm new to the game, dont really want to join an alliance as I dont want to get dragged into a war at this early stage.
Anyone like to assisting in creating distance to from star maps?
Or is everyone just suspecious that this can help trace your homeworld?

Inactives will continually appear and disappear. They are normally around for a 30 day window during which they are very easy to raid for resources. You just have to keep your eyes open ;)

As for the distance for galaxies, some are close and some are far (such as galaxy 18).

Thanks I can understand that inactives come and go but do the solar systems and galaxies move?

If seems that numerically the further a go from my system the longer it takes but is that really teh case or just I haven't tested it enough, and are soem galaxies closer than others so:

say I'm 4.123.8

then 5.123.9 is closer then 9.123.8?

Or is it random?

Distances are a bit scaled to simplify calculations.

All galaxies are equally distant from the previous one
All solar systems within a galaxy are equally distant from the one before and after them
All planets within a system are evenly distributed in terms of slot 1, 2, ect...

The time not scaling as such is due to the way flight time is calculated. This is to prevent even short trips such as 150 systems from taking days.

So, just for clarification, the galaxies and systems are not only neither 3D nor 2D but only 1 dimensional (length)?  To aid another friend, I established a colony in his system which is several galaxies from my home system.  I have since discovered I need to send a cargo ship with each fleet just to tanker fuel (feels like a KC-10 Extender with a half dozen F-15 Eagles in tow).  Obviously my bad for having done so but is their any alternative to the tanker drag over these long distances?

once you get to some larger ships they have an increased cargo capacity and therefore should not require a cargo escort, and could maybe even have enough fuel space to help some smaller ships along...  there is a flight thread somewhere or on the wiki...  ill find it for you. and get back

Basically they are a shape that cannot exist in 3D space :P

Lol, I'm not qualified to begin to guess what it might be.
