Using war for moonshots
« on: August 09, 2011, 07:22:36 PM »
Is it valid, legal? I know at least a big alliance that does that in SFCO and another that is planning to do that.

I think it's system abuse. I see no reason to do that further than abusing the system to gain DSP rank. But there's no rule about this, so I can't report anyone. What do you think?

You mean players are abusing the war function by setting up bogus wars and giving each other moonshots to inflate their DSP?  :o
Who didn't see THAT coming?

I started a war in SFCO with someone who only plays in Uni2 now, just to try it out and see how it worked. It's not really going anywhere since they have no ships and refuse to attack anyone.

Maybe "war points" or "war DSP" should have their own category on the LB so as not to dilute the already overinflated DSP rankings players are able to get from account crashing and moonshot trading..?
Or we can all just accept DSP will continue to be even less relevant to a player's skill level and rank than it was before.

Or maybe BFG just needs some dedicated beta testers who will pick apart any rule changes or new additions to the game in separate clone universes for a week or two in advance before anything goes live in the game. Let 'em check for bugs, exploits, imbalances and any other unintended side-effects before it creates any large scale uproars.

While I don't know that this specific problem is going to be addressed, war changes are coming soon. I think you will be pleased.

Will there be any of us left playing then, that actually care about the game ?

Without going into specifics, I assume you were vague because you can't really say more, can you at least confirm if the changes when implement will:

a) Have any effect on ongoing Wars at the time of implementation
b) Have any effect on the current War record totals

If it's going to reset alliances to 0 wins/losses there might be some issues and complaints from Alliances who have done well so far. Likewise, if it makes winning a war more difficult there will be some alliances with War records that are higher than they ought to be (depending on what the changes might be).

As far as I am aware, the answer to both is No.

I'm not a fan of setting up a war for moon shots or farming.    I've seen it too and it's not something I'd be part of.     I may tease someone about it on skype but that's about it.

I've just seen some changes.

It's nice. Well done. But I don't see how it affects the issue pointed on this topic.
