I just went into d mode due to work and some family issues. I use Nuclear Power Plants for some specific reasons. It does have benefits I don't want to give them away to those who can't figure it out. Anyways

I was just looking over things at my planets a bit. I had negative hydrogen production due to D mode and consumption rates of the NPP. Does BFG realize this? Is it a flaw that needs to be changed?

To give you an example

My planet hydrogen mine is level 17 and produces 1381 hydrogen an hour. But due to D mode that production is reduced. NPP consumption 377 an hour with NPP at full power I had a negative -31 hydrogen an hour production. Energy Tech level is 11. I suppose if I up the energy tech level it could potentially change that.

Was wondering if people were aware of this?

The consumption rates of NPP are based on full hydrogen out put from the mines.. I'm typically an active player so it's not a huge issue...

We're fully aware of it and it is intended. You are consuming more Hydrogen in your NPP than you are producing per hour due to the diplomacy tax.

I was always a bit perplexed by this... logically, shouldn't the hydro for the NPP be pre-tax?

that you don't like extra hydro and don't have enough of a fleet for it to matter? sorry npp is for noobs.

Not hen you have energy tech 16.
Then, suddenly, it's 10,700 energy coming from 16 fields. :P

No offense enforcer you have no idea what you are talking about and clearly have not looked deeply into NPP. It is not for noobs and it does have rather large benefits especially when you get your Energy tech levels high enough but I doubt you've looked at the wiki and researched it?

All of my planets are cold -41 degrees or cooler and set up for NPP. The hydrogen bonuses I get put out rather large amounts of hydrogen. Yes my fleet is small but that's because I'm putting all of my rez into research and mines FIRST. Infrastructure is what wins wars...

I'd tell you the benefits but your arrogant attitude gets on my nerves and I see no benefit to helping you.

oh wooptty, i need 20791 energy after my solar 30. 1865 helios gives me that. i think you need to think bigger than paying hydro for energy.

enforcer,
NPPs can be very useful if your Energy Tech is high enough.  At Energy Tech 16 a level 19 NPP will produce 21,320 energy at a meager cost of 582 Hydro.  That is 11 levels lower than your Solar Array and will not provide an opponent with any DSP should you get attacked.

I don't know about you, but there is a lot I can do with an additional 11 fields.

Lets say you get hit and lose those 1865 helios.. You just lost 3.73 Million Crystal and 932,500 hydrogen. Plus the energy production. You're also not factoring the hydrogen bonuses of Cold planets. helios SUCK on cold planets. You will also have to turn your mines down significantly until you can build enough helios again. If I get hit I wont have to turn my mines down.

One of my colder planets is -49 to -89 degrees Hydrogen mine is level 17 and pumping out 1591 hydrogen an hour with just mine droids. As stated above NPP also saves you fields which will allow me to build more mines then you with your solar or invest it in other infrastructure. NPP has benefits...

I'm curious did you play a game called Deepolis? You have the same name as a player on there and act just like him.

Inappropriate, you're quite right up to a point, but you and enforcer are kinda talking apples and oranges. NPPs are great and they complement solar plants, but when you're talking mine levels in the upper 30's you've got no choice but to use Helios. And  the H bonus for a cold planet is utterly outweighed by the cost/H usage of a high level NPP or equivalent Solar Array.

For mines that high it makes far more sense to use solar/Helios and keep an NPP for partial backup in case you lose the Helios. I think you're also talking different Unis, in SFCO the cost of 1865 Helios is quite large, plus they'd make a tempting target. In Uni2 and the Extremes the cost is peanuts.

yep. anyone with half that many helios would be a target. Morat is right, you need a good balance between them all.

Hermes : 0  (Lost: 1 of 1)
** Resources lost: 0 ore, 1,000 crystal, and 0 hydrogen.
** Destroyed Ship Points Gained: 3,004
*****Defender: wuado*****
Hermes : 0  (Lost: 36 of 36)
Helios : 0  (Lost: 1829 of 1829)
Atlas : 0  (Lost: 350 of 350)
Missile : 0  (Lost: 6025 of 6025)
Laser : 0  (Lost: 170 of 170)
Pulse : 0  (Lost: 55 of 55)
Particle : 0  (Lost: 25 of 25)
Decoy : 0  (Lost: 1 of 1)
Gauss : 0  (Lost: 83 of 83)
Large decoy: 0  (Lost: 1 of 1)
Plasma : 0  (Lost: 185 of 185)
** Ship Resources lost: 700,000 ore, 4,394,000 crystal, and 914,500 hydrogen.
** Total Resources lost: 24,355,000 ore, 15,294,000 crystal, and 6,630,500 hydrogen.
** Destroyed Ship Points Gained: 2,501

The attacking side acquired 1,535,350 ore, 503,076 crystal, and 435,019 hydrogen.
The following defenses were rebuilt: Particle Cannon x18 Missile Battery x3,913 Gauss Cannon x57 Decoy x1 Pulse Cannon x38 Plasma Cannon x134 Laser Cannon x115 Large Decoy x1 570,000 ore and 1,618,500 crystal are now floating at this location.

i pulled down 540k/540k of the df and flipped on my npp 16 to 100% and build 891 helios. production was at less that 100% for less than 2 hours and all helios were replaced in less than 12.
here is my hourly Ore 111,685
Crystal 36,151
Hydrogen 40,666
and the cost to run my npp at 100%
Energy Production: 8,874 of 8,874
Hydrogen Consumption:1,472 of 1,472

here is how i see it 10m hydro a month vs 8k helios. i am always going to choose the hydro.

Enforcer the key to NPP is your Energy Tech Level. What level is it at.. Plus you can save fields on your planets if you use NPP that's the entire point to them.

i have et 15. you can pretty much tell the temp of the colony based on the npp lvl. 13=41 14=34,35,36 16=9,10,12 power per helio.
