... every game has to grow and evolve if it intends to exist for any extended period of time.

Since your problem seems to revolve around us titling the universe 'Original' (Since it is, as it was the first Universe), would it ease the transition for your if I start referring to it as SFC Uni 1?

I think I'll use the phrase, the game formerly known as SFCO.
Expect only what happens in the fight. That way you'll never be surprised.

I have heard many people complain that SFCO did not have some of the new features introduced in the later versions, but they did not want to move to those new universes because they had invested so much time in the original. With that I concur.

I, for one, look forward to at least some of the new changes, although I do wish the layout would remain as it is now. I tried playing Stardrift when it was introduced and did not like the layout at all. So I went back to the familiar place of my comfortable Uni 1.
Caterine - SFCO
Mosquito - Extreme
Witchblade - Hired Guns

I actually like the SDE layout much better than this one.  This one is too, cluttered and I'm not sure why BFG chose to go with this one.

Matt is there some technical reason why this layout was chosen?  I mean SDE is very much cooler and easier to navigate.  Same with the lotto.  Here it seems too cartoonish, whereas in SDE it is serious and ominous.

Would be interesting to know why this one was chosen..

they couldn't use the artwork from SDE so had to create new stuff for SFC, it's not that bad and I'm just happy it's there I love the lucky draw

That's funny Chuck!

Ok BFG here's a little constructive criticism, overall update, I'll give it a thumbs up. As far page layout, despite all the ad links, pretty good, with one exception, that being the placement of messages, alliance and buddy links on the left. Its a basic economy of motion problem since you have to click on them with a mouse they would have been better left on the right side of the page.

I am still not a fan of of the lucky draw or the shadow probe. We'll have to agree to disagree on those issues. That said, both were designed to increase sales and I think they will 'function as intended'.

One other minor thing, you really should just tell folks Genesis Solar Satellite produces twice the energy of a Helios on any given planet. Better yet provided it on the Shipyard page with the output for the active planet. It would be a little more incentive to purchase one instead of 'its more efficient at collecting sunlight' with no technical data provided except on the wiki.

SFCO went away some time ago, as a result of gradual changes. The recent update doesn't make a huge difference in itself, just further cements that gradual change in place.

When I started playing SFC, these were the random variables (I'm doing this off the top of my head, so I'm not claiming every variable is included)

1. Field size of new colonies
2. Temperature of new colonies
3. Exactly how many times a ship will rapid fire in combat
4. Defence losses at 15% or 30% depending on Engineer purchase

The only combat variable was rapid fire, unless you were attacking a planet with defences with more than one wave.

The above variables still apply, but now we also have these

1. The A/W/S levels of the defender when your attack hits (can vary up to two levels)
2. The propulsion speed of the defender can increase by up to two levels (Drive Engineer and the propulsion Augments from the Lucky Draw) making return locks easy (and incidentally devaluing the enormous cost in time and OCH for higher levels of propulsion techs)
3. How many defences/ships will be at the target regardless of shipyard/foundry levels (Lucky Draw ninja)
4. Whether a planet will suddenly appear and hit your target in-system while you're still in transit (i-Hopping on inactives)
5. How much OCH is actually on a colony without it being transported (Lucky Draw item use)
6. Whether defending Helios will rebuild or not (Satellite Tech)
7. Instant Neutrality
8. Not knowing when you've been probed, therefore not knowing what someone knows about your fleet (Shadow Probe).
9. Not knowing how much DF a particular player can pick up with a given # of Dios (Recycler Magnus)

Plus all the other Commanders and Magnuses and Augments for production, etc.

Almost every one of those new variables itemised is combat-related, if only indirectly, and none are available to build within the game. The worst ones are i-Hopping and the Shadow Probe, but even those aren't game-breakers by any stretch of the imagination. However, cumulatively they amount to a completely different game from the one I started playing.

SFC is no longer a PvP game of skill, it's a PvP game with sufficient variables that the skill element is now very much in the backseat, and those willing to spend enough money can dominate those around them.

Not what I signed up for. There's plenty of games like that around already.
