it isn't harassment if they have ships in orbit. mines are in low orbit so they are ships.

As far as I know it's not harassment to destroy defenses to soften up a target.  3 waves of 50 arties in advance of the main assault shouldn't be considered harassment.  It's strategy.  If it works.

So mines count as dsp?

@Nate I doubt that'd be harassment, but it'd be breaking the DSP pushing rules.

@Klinghorn Mines are defences, so no DSP. 1 Helios would count.

Hmm how would that be harassing?
If I choose to send 50 Hermes to espionage a planet, would they activate the mines? And if they did not, then I just get my scans back. If they did activate the mines then I lose a good deal of them and possibly take out a bunch of his ships in orbit as well???

Espionaging a planet with 50 probes is not attacking a planet with 50 probes.

Matt, are there any plans to update the Wiki with all of the new features in Nova?  I did a search for "mines" and it took me to the page for resource mines.  I searched for "defenses" and the defenses page still doesn't have any information on the new defensive mines.

Instead of fielding 100's of questions for each new feature, wouldn't it be much easier to give all the details of each new feature and make it searchable on the wiki?
That is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your incoherent, rambling response, did you come close to making what could be considered a rational thought. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

No. No more than 5 mines will be detonated by 1 ship.
What about the Pallas bomber?  It has a RF of 100 against mines.

So, I attack someone that has space mines defending, and engage in a 5 round battle.  Does each space mine fire each round until it "detonates?"  or is the detonation of the mine the only damage that it does?

The information is on the wiki: http://wiki.playstarfleet.com/index.php/Space_Mine

We're discussing chance to detonate, not chance to be destroyed by an attacking ship. The 'detonation' is the only way the space mine fires.

The detonation is the only damage the space mine does and it is removed from combat once it detonates.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I guess what threw me off was that the space mines aren't on the Defenses page.  And I thought searching for "mine" would bring more than one possible match.

Will space mines detonate and destroy IBMs?

Since they a defense it would seem they should potentially be targeted and destroyed by IBMs but since they floating above the surface it would seem that they could intercept one intended for other defenses.
There are some in the continuum that frown upon my being a pirate. So I became a Sith Lord too.

Why would a Q do this you ask? Because I can and they had RUM!

Hell yeah... Starfleet (he-he, Sisco that is) made that station the first "war" station in Starfleet history... Fitting,... since his ship, the Defiant, was the first "war" ship ever produced by the Federation...

GAWD... I loved the Defiant!!! What a bad-ass ship she was. I have the floorplans and deck layouts on my computer :)
Have you tried Star Trek Online? There are 3 different variations of the Defiant, which include the Quad Phaser cannons and a Cloaking device. Lots of fun :D
