So, do all territories expire 118 hours after being taken if nobody else takes it?

Each territory has it's own life timer. They'll expire regardless of whether they've been taking or not.

All Territories have 100 fields.

Ships return to the associated planet when the territory times out.

That's lovely.... But the rsp limit to hit a player on a terri is putting the lucky few who find one at a Massive advantage...  Mid game sure,they'll be a conflict point but right now they are just serving as a massive boost to the few that find them.

They're not really a 'massive boost' as the Territories don't provide bonuses like Conquest. They're actually big resource sinks that detract from other early game investment in infrastructure.

If that's correct, it seems like there are still very few territories available. My question, then, is whether that number of territories is going to stay at that low number unless many more new players join.

It's really hard to say that's the case since we're actively advertising the Universe and it's only 6.25 hours since launch and not all the time zones have really had a chance to play yet. We haven't even had a weekend of play.

But Territories will continue to be added, but they're going to be far rarer than Conquest. That are supposed to be conflict points that players are actively fighting over.

What happens if you occupy one of the territories on which you can build the new techs, build some of the techs, and then end up losing the territory?
