There is no bug with OpenParser. It is working as designed and can only show the information it is provided. It is not a definitive guide to online times for players.

So I am assuming if my parser started giving simular info to those mentioned earlier, there would be no concerns  from BFG, as I have developed the need for no sleep?

The parser is a third party tool that can only compile the data that is submitted to it. If you believe the information there is not helpful, you don't have to use it or I can stop hosting it. If you'd like to host your own, I can make the code available to you.

While I may be over critical of BFG and Matt at times, I will Defend Matt on this one. Parser appears to be working fine generally speaking. a few players have figured out how to make look like they are 24 hours a day. I could do this too, but cannot be bothered. it is easy enough to do as we can all agree I think. just have friends or alliance probe you regularly during your off times will do it.

I appreciate the work Matt has put in on the Parser and am glad it is there. it is better than all previous versions that I am aware of.

I am suspicious of the folk that are on 24 hours also, but will not accuse them of anything as I know it is possible to play for long stretches of time and over time the parser will give the appearance of them being generally on line. the parser is averaging the data incoming over time it cannot show current trends as it only makes generalizations. changing your play times will also affect the data display (ie a shift worker will play at night one week and during the day another, etc.) this over time would show up as on line all the time.

There are ways to beat the system both legal and illegal why must we always assume it is by cheating.

It might be interesting to see within parser current trends and overall trends as well as raw data for the last week. say set it up in a seven day cycle so we can see weekly trends as well as daily trends.

Parser cannot show everything. we pour all of our hopes into it and expect it to be a perfect tool. while it is good it cannot do everything for us. All of the parsers (except possibly the private ones) have worked on a 24 hour data set and not on a weekly data set. They cannot show that a player plays differently on weekends  or every second Wednesday plays all day as he has the day off. it is a simple database with limited data analysis. the raw data possibly could be analysed differently if it is stored in a manner that allows such manipulation.

Recently I have discovered how much work can go into such projects to maintain them and keep them running and I GREATLY APPRECIATE the work MattH, FatBudda, Eljer and others have put in to make and support tools for us to make the game better.

THANK YOU MATT!

If you have ideas for the parser, or want to help me rewrite the code into something much more manageable, feel free to contact me. I have the code available on GitHub for you to contribute to.

Matt,
Thanks for you work on Open Parser. it is a great tool and as with any free tool (or even ones you pay for) people will complain about something. it has made BFG games much more interesting to play.

Thanks!

love how everyone is missing the point

We know the parser works by scanning so it cant really be duped. Therefore it would seem that the issue is with the selected accounts

Well...

First of all thanks to Matt for developing the parser and spending time to check the "reported bug".

I am glad that there is nothing wrong with the parser! My apology if I mentioned about a bug, let say that I applied the Occam's razor. Unfortunately in such case such method did not work.

Other explanations, provided by players (i.e. probing by friends, or working on shifts) have some plausibility however they have a lot of holes.

Maybe this one should go to the X Files!

Thanks again Matt for your work

Maybe there is no need to file in the X files...

Just need a computer on all the time, have a browser tab open on your shipyard and have a long queue there...

You can go to sleep and it will always show activity  8)

That is incorrect;  the games were fixed to not do that a long time ago.

I tested it, who do you think I am? a fool that makes a post without testing it?  ::) ::)

Nice red post anyway, maybe you want to try with a different color  :P or with something that adds value to the discussion  8)
