Noob Attack
« on: December 31, 2009, 06:17:13 PM »
Just started lastnight, prety cool game so far. Say, I've got a transport and an Artemis and am ranked at #86k and attack a (In) player in my galaxy who's ranked #139k with 600, 600 in his debris field. What might I expect as far as battle success and booty?

You could almost certainly win, since the debris field means even if he had ships, they have since been destroyed. Resources will likely be low, though, for the same reason; he's already been hit.

Always probe before attacks though. For combat reasons as well as resources. Attacks can take quite a while. If the resources are low enough, you'd be better off running missions till you find a better target. Basically, get probes, find good targets.

Normally I'd suggest to probe someone out first. But someone ranked #139k probably only has a single atlas. Most likely your Artemis is good enough to claim victory, but without a probe it's hard to say if he'd have worthwhile resources or not. If you're unsure, don't feel like you have to start attacking after day one.

Thanks for the replies.. the Hermes seemed a bit expensive and I was mostly curious to see what I came back with when I attacked. I'll work on getting a probe built after this I guess. Not a bad idea to see what you're going up against.

Hermes probes are reusable, so as long as they're not shot down (which at this level, won't happen) you can keep sending it over and over. Maybe knowing that will change how expensive they seem.

The attacking side acquired 2,500 ore, 2,500 crystal, and 50 hydrogen.

There now float 1,200 ore and 1,200 crystal around this planet.

Sweet!

1:40 there and an 1:40 back. Faster to just run the missions over and over but where's the fun in that eh?

Faster to return, maybe, but you have to look at resources per unit time, usually seconds.  The missions page on the wiki lists resources per second for that; you have to calculate the raid yourself, of course.

For example, I finished a raid earlier today that got me 13,777 resources in 4 hours.  That works out to .95 resources a second.  Not a bad rate, but not that good, compared to most missions.  Of course, I didn't have to sit there and click on a mission button over and over. :)
