your min size for a colony
« on: January 03, 2010, 04:03:57 AM »
what is the smallest planet you would take for a colony and why?
I figure it should be over 200 so you can build all your mines to 40 (120 fields) plus energy (42 more fields) to power then plus a shipyard... make sence? i was lucky that my first 2 were all over 200, but trying to decided if i should keep the 4th which is smaller...

You are correct in theory.
In play, I doubt that most planets use up more than the first 150 slots.
Using 175 slots would be very expensive, but doable if you're well established and rich.
Using 200 slots would take epic amounts of effort.

I tend to accept anything over 175.

In fact, I don't think I've used more than 110 slots on any of my planets after playing for a month. Since the price for every upgrade doubles, I doubt that number will move much above 110 very soon. I still have to invest a good chunk of my income into research, fleet, and defenses. Mine upgrades are beginning to be a lower priority now that I'm getting most of my income from raids.

Well for me I tend to accept anything over 80. I use these planets for farms and anything in the 100's I use for labs, storage depots, shipyards, and factories. The 80's give me enough fields for 17/15/13+solar for all. Though I would like to get into the 200's. But for now I am set.

I'm a 180 person myself, but 175/180 that's splitting hairs.

Anything strategic 250- farms 170 or higher. I've been playing for 3 months and my Home World of 163 is eight slots from being full. Besides the 40 level mines figure in resource storage at least a level 10 Lab, a level 10-12 capital, a foundry and a level 14 shipyard then you are going to be elbowing the walls with anything less than 200
