IPMs Destroying IPMs
« on: March 10, 2010, 02:48:05 PM »
I discovered last night that incoming IPMs and destroy your IPMs stockpile.  I have not seen this listed in the wiki and on top of that it seems illogical to me.  Has anyone else experienced this?

makes sense to me...The nukes that launch will destroy any defences on your planet  and the IBM are part of your defence, just build some ABM

Never made sense to me, IPM are offense only, not defense like everything else destroyed buy other IPMs.  Now, if I could launch them against an attacking fleet that would be a different idea.

I never knew this!

Then again ... I haven't had the opportunity to be hit by IBMs ... those things are heavy!  Now ... Apples and Commodores, on the other hand ...

I agree with hotrod. IPMs are not defensive, they are in the defense tab, but they should not be.

This exists so a player has to guard his offensive weapons. I've seen a few people get greedy when trying to nuke me and build 30, filling their silo. I waited until they were asleep and took out the lot. Same thing has happened to an alliance mate of mine.

The problem is that IPMs are pretty much useless.  You cant leave the galaxy, you can only go 5 systems per level of PD, they take 2x the space as an ABM and now I find out that they can get blown up by other missiles... Honestly, why even offer them if they're so useless?

actually it is very effective to target your missle strike to hit their IBMs.  the hull-cost ratio on them makes them the best target for IBMs... that is if your sole purpose is to do harm to them.

Because they are in many cases the easiest and most cost effective way to attack a turtle.

TRUTH!

I had 3 colonies in range of this relatively large turtle at the time and decided to hit him with 60 Nukes just to piss him off.  I didn't even attack.  Oh the profanity laced messages that I received following those missiles.

I usually ignore most messages sent to me.  Most of them are from a-holes whining that I just destroyed their fleet.
