A Moon Has Been Abandoned
« on: March 20, 2010, 09:00:35 PM »
Following a number of attacks on a potentially threatening moon and after interceding on behalf of another alliance, the Disciples Of Muad'Dib has through military action, forced a moon to be abandoned by the owner.

What a wussy. The Valkethian Federation would NEVER give up such prime real estate as a moon, regardless of harrassing activities. Unless maybe the planet only had 50 fields or something.

That guy's an idiot. If you get a moon, you keep it. If it's a 50-field planet, just use it as an attack base. Or terraform if you've got the credits.

Not necessarily. It brings all sorts of unwanted attention. Most people will put maximum effort to keep an oracle from being made. So that could be up to several attacks a day, disabling the ability to build an oracle or any sort of lasting help.

Hence needing more than 50 fields. At least 150 would be needed to secure a moon under seige. Otherwise you're just screwed in the long run when you eventually abandon it because you need more fields, and all that res you spent is wasted.

Again, I have to ask, where does all this attention come from?  Maybe it's because I'm the biggest fish in my pond, but I have rarely gotten scanned since I've gotten my moon.  And only usually as retaliation for my own scans.  How do you get people so interested in your moon, I'd like to know so I can ninja people!

Well he's not completely gone away and for that I am glad as his fleets did make good targets and he is a nice guy.  However his main threat of being able to intercept shipping has been removed, so the other alliance that was concerned about it all can deal with him now.

In answer to your question and citing our example only, the player wished to make use of his moon more effectively and start hitting fleets as they arrived at other players planets.  He wished to do so regularly.  Well that is the purpose of Oracle.  This alarmed a few people nearby and they asked us if we could do something as a few allies of his had arrived to enjoy the spoils he could find.

So we intercepted his resources as best we could, denying him the ability to increase beyond Oracle 1.  Every fleet that was seen was targeted.  His colleagues who came to feast on other planets were also intercepted.  I think the straw that broke the Camel's back was the 18 attacks in 3 days from different players.  That and he did not have a lot of support locally.  He found the moon unusable.  So we were lucky.  A 1st I think in the game, for a player to abandon a moon, but still an element of luck.

As much as I hate to say it but, wouldn't this have been the time to cycle Dip.  I mean I hate dip as much as anything, but just for players that live there because they're afraid to loose a ship or two.  But in war you use whatever you can.  Reguardless, nice!!!  Anyone that can get a person to abandon a planet is pretty cool, but a moon...  That's legendary.

I didn't think anyone would abandon a moon...people fight tooth and nail just to get one.

Very impressive!
