I love this little manuver.  No it's not where you spit on the girls back.  It's where you take a few thousand probes and clear the resources off of a planet that is being attacked.  Then at the last min you FRS and when they do a followup probe, the ships are still there but everything else is gone.  I am doing one right now.

that just sounds retarded

a few thousand probes?...seriously...

the whole thing just seems stupid....

just FRS 10 seconds before the attack lands...no muss, no fuss...

I did something kinda similar the other day... I needed about 1500 more ore on one of my colonies, to start the next building, so I did two round-trip transports with 185 probes...

I've used a swarm of probes to move small amounts of res very quickly myself. It only takes a minute to gather them all in one spot. And even 500 can move a few k res in minutes. Not practical for massive amounts of res though.

No! In fact, there's nothing "serious" about this maneuver at all!   :)
If it's serious, you've missed the idea; It's just a pointless (and rarely, but maybe even costless) way to amuse yourself and confuse some dude who's watching you, thinking you are his prey.   (BTW, isn't that a big part in the point of this game???)

You can transfer 12M with hercs or 7.2M res an hour with atlas or 2.5M with probes.

I think having 30k probes would be pretty cool though :P Would suck though 2 million hydro for the probes and only 65k for the atlas :P

that many probes also comes in handy on the counter espy, as ship count comes into play on interceptions.

I usually keep about 1-2k probes, I would have more but I like to add them to my fodder in attacks.  They are very handy for transporting resources in system because each probe can transport ~4.8 rez per trip in a ~35 second trip.

I prefer to shut my mines down and fs with a few seconds to go. Time it right, and the planet's ore production on its own leaves them 1 ore.

It's like leaving only a penny to your waiter. It's more insulting than stiffing them entirely. Someone burns through godawful amounts of hydro to catch me and gets 1 ore. :D

Especially if it's one of my defended worlds and I grab the debris.

I actually had a moon shot work out about 10 min from his attack landing so i turned the hydro synth on for a min to give him a hydrogen.  A little bit of bubbly to celebrate i figured.  He did send 40 hades and 40 posiedons, so i figured he was entitled to a door prize.
