dead sexy numbers =D

but i gotta question accuracy of their data gathering

and that includes tons of (I) that dont really count

but thats still lots of new people

I don't see the problem...

It sounded like you were hinting at a innaccuracy in the data and I didn't see see it.  Sorry if I misunderstood you.

from what I vaguely understand about the data gathering, it's just looking at the leaderboard by resource spent.  And there was no effort in filtering out (i) or (I) or (v)  (after all, those accounts can go back to being active).

So yeah, the numbers would include inactives; and I think he also rounded to the nearest hundred.

Still, the trends are pretty good observation points.

He essentially considers anyone who has gone over 100 build points to be a potential "real player", rather than being a random facebook friend who got invited just to be "crew fodder".  So that over-100 build points number can be a good indicator for how well the game is able to capture new players.  (And it is a number that is in decline ...)

The over-5000 build points number is a good indicator of players who are able to continue playing seriously.  At that point, players are out of newbie protection; so they are about to be (harrassed) attacked by just about any other higher-ranked player.

The remaining two numbers (over 10k and over 50k) are gauges at how well a player is able to continue playing outside of newbie protection.  Essentially: does the game encourage a good player to continue advancing?

So, it seems that while the game may be having problems gaining new players, it has enough that the number of "serious" players continue to grow and advance.

At least ... for now.

9400 players from 5-50k build points increase with only 2100 leaving from the lower ranks

sounds like a good balance of people leaving people coming and people staying and building

I'm not sure if you understand the numbers.

When it says "above 5000 bp" it means "5000 to maximum (currently Blackmar at about 1000000)"

So there's overlap when you look at the "above 5000 bp" and the "above 50000" bp.

But as you said, it's hard to interpret the data without being able to track individual accounts.  But, here's one possible interpretation....

The number of players between 5000bp and 50000bp would be the difference, calculated as follows:

if you define "mid-level" as people with between 5k to 50k bp, then ...
3/6 :  4500   (5000 - 500)
3/25 :  4854 (7400 - 1546)
4/26 :  5200 (8400 - 3200)

So ... the midlevel grew about 700 players between 3/6 and 4/26

And you can also look at the higher-than-midlevel (above 50k bp):  It's nice that the number grew by 2700  (3200 - 500)

in contrast, you can look at the newbies (between 100bp and 5kbp)
3/6 :  9900   (14900 - 5000)
3/25 :  8500 (15900 - 7400)
4/26 :  4400 (12800 - 8400)

Meanwhile, the newbies shrank by 5500 players between 3/6 and 4/26; you could say that about 700 (or so? maybe 1000 at most?)  of those probably moved to the midlevel ... and maybe the 2700 growth of the above 50k bp is partially from newbies moving rapidly up.

So ... in the "best case" scenario, roughly 2000 of that 5500 newbie-player-shrink is the number of newbies who left the game.  The other 3500 graduated to higher bps.
